Job summary

The City of University Park is seeking a Director of Development Services to lead the department, oversee Building Inspection and Planning, and guide all development projects through the city’s processes.

The role focuses on economic development planning, business growth, and cross-department coordination to align land use with infrastructure and permitting goals, including strong partnerships with SMU.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Community Development, Business, Real Estate, Construction Management, Economic Development, Public Administration or Finance.
• Five or more years of experience in development services with supervisory experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication and ability to build relationships with government officials, developers and the community.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all activities of the Development Services Department, including Building Inspection and Planning Divisions.
• Develop and implement economic development strategies to diversify the city’s revenue base.
• Collaborate across departments and with SMU to align development priorities with land use, infrastructure, permitting, and parking.
• Foster relationships with local businesses, developers and real estate professionals to support expansion and retention of non-residential tax base.
• Supervise the development review processes, coordinate with internal departments, and manage multiple development projects.
• Conduct research and analysis on economic conditions, market trends, and target industries; prepare reports and dashboards.
