About the Organization

On Your Feet Foundation is a 501(c)3 founded in 2001 by adoptive parents, adoption professionals and a birth parent who recognized the need for post-placement support for those who have placed children for adoption.

We define a birthparent as a person who has placed a child for adoption.

We provide the comprehensive support, services, and community that birthparents deserve no matter when they placed their child for adoption and we advocate for birthparent rights and ethical practices in adoption in order to improve outcomes for all members of the adoption constellation.

Position Overview

Location: Remote/Flexible; local to Chicago

Schedule: Part-time (20-25 hours per week)

Reports to: Executive Director

The Development and Outreach Director will play a crucial role in advancing On Your Feet Foundation's mission through comprehensive fundraising, community engagement, and program coordination. This position combines traditional development responsibilities with specialized program management unique to our organization's services.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies including annual appeals, major donor cultivation, and special events
• Research, identify, and write grant applications to foundations, corporations, and government entities
• Manage donor acknowledgment processes and stewardship activities
• Maintain and optimize donor database using Little Greenlight CRM system
• Coordinate fundraising events from conception through execution
• Develop and implement strategies to expand donor base and increase retention rates

Community Engagement & Outreach

• Oversee the Birthparent Support Alliance program, including recruitment and management of member organizations
• Coordinate membership inquiries and contract negotiations with adoption agencies and other organizations/companies interested in supporting our work
• Build and maintain relationships within the broader adoption community
• Represent the organization at conferences, meetings, and community events
• Develop relationships with adoption professionals, agencies, and related organizations

Program Coordination

• Manage Activism in Adoption program including:
• Registration processes and troubleshooting
• Participant inquiries and support
• Review and processing of questionnaires
• Issuing adoption education certificates
• Coordinate with program staff to ensure seamless service delivery
• Maintain program databases and tracking systems

Communications & Marketing Support

• Collaborate with Executive Director and Communications Director on donor communications
• Assist with content creation for newsletters, social media, website, and marketing materials
• Maintain contact lists and communication databases

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 3-5 years of development/fundraising experience
• Proven track record in individual giving, online fundraising, and donor management
• Experience with CRM systems (Little Greenlight experience preferred)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, and database management
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Preferred

• 5+ years of nonprofit development experience
• Experience in grant writing and foundation relations
• Knowledge of the adoption landscape and related issues
• Personal or professional connection to adoption (preferred, not required)
• Event planning and management experience
• Experience with online fundraising platforms and tools
