Ohr Chadash Academy (OCA) is a Torah-driven Orthodox Jewish day school in Baltimore serving students from early childhood through 8th grade. We seek a part-time Director of Development to lead fundraising efforts, work with the Head of School, Admissions, Marketing, and Business Office, and advance the school's mission.

The Director will design campaigns, manage donor relations, oversee annual giving, grants, and events, recruit volunteers, and ensure accurate gift recording.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s recommended.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Build a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising program to fund operational needs and capital goals.
  • Oversee Annual Campaign, special events, and grants to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
  • Partner with the Board of Trustees to establish and achieve fundraising goals and identify new funding prospects.
  • Provide leadership and training to develop the Board’s capacity to fundraise.
  • Identify and research prospective donors and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations.
  • Develop strategies to cultivate, recognize, and maintain relationships with major donors and funders.
  • Leverage the Head of School to cultivate leadership donor prospects.
  • Recruit and train parent volunteers to support development efforts.
  • Coordinate with Marketing to prepare solicitation materials and communications.
  • Oversee recording of gifts in a database according to IRS specs and policies.
  • Track trends in development data and recommend changes to strategies.
  • Provide biweekly reports of development activities to the Head of School.
  • Follow up with donors regarding unpaid gifts.

OCA is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and data-driven part-timeDirector of Development. This position worksactivelywith the Headof School, Admissions, Marketing, and Business Office teams to lead the School’s Development efforts.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Development is responsible for providing innovative and strategic leadership for institutional advancement. The Director articulates all campaign strategies; participates in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects; oversees all advancement activities; and represents the School in the community. This job is accomplished through the individual’s own direct efforts as well as through managing a team of professional staff and effectively leveraging the skills and volunteer contributions of parents and alumni, board members, and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Building a comprehensive, strategic, multi-year fundraising program to fund the operational needs and capital goals of the School.
  • Overseeing Annual Campaign, special events, and grants to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
  • Partnering with the Board of Trustees to establish and achieve fundraising goals and identify new individual and business funding prospects.
  • Providing leadership and facilitating Board training to develop its capacity to fundraise on behalf of the School.
  • Identifying and researching prospective donors and grants, including individuals, corporations, foundations, organizations, and governmental programs.
  • Developing and overseeing strategies to cultivate, recognize, and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, alumni and corporate funders and ensuring that timely steps are taken toward solicitation.
  • Effectively leveraging the Head of School to cultivate leadership donor prospects and strengthen donor-School relationships.
  • Recruiting and training parent volunteers to support development efforts.
  • Working proactively with the Director of Marketing to prepare solicitation materials and development-related communications.
  • Overseeing the recording of gifts in a database management system according to all IRS specifications, and School policies and procedures in a timely, organized, and accurate manner.
  • Overseeing the tracking, reporting, and analyzing trends in development data to evaluate current fundraising strategies and methods and recommend changes as appropriate.
  • Providing updated biweekly reports of development activities to the Head of School, including individual donor gifts, events being planned, and development-related costs.
  • Following up with donors regarding unpaid gifts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Bachelor’s degree, required. Master’s recommended.

  • Highly organized, proactive, able to keep accurate records, follow through on multiple projects simultaneously, and meet benchmarks on time.
  • Professional in appearance, attitude, and presentation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; maintains active and open communication with all stakeholders: Head of School, Board of Trustees, professional and volunteer team members, donors, and community.
  • Exercises good judgment and ensures the highest level of confidentiality and ethical decision making at all times; follows guidelines of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Prizmah.
  • Effective management and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to build, manage, mentor and motivate an effective team of professionals and volunteers.
  • Experienced in leading a variety of development activities, including annual giving, targeted giving, planned giving, capital campaigns, and grant procurement.
  • Skilled in the design and implementation of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for prospects capable of giving at the five- and six-figure level.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve increasing annual development goals.
