Visionary Developments is a Los Angeles real estate development firm focused on on innovative, design-forward multifamily and mixed-use developments. We bring together creative vision, financial strategy, and disciplined execution to create places that serve people and communities.

We’re seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead our development portfolio and build the team, systems, and capabilities that support the company’s growth.

This senior leadership role spans development strategy, capital planning, project execution, and team building. You’ll translate the company’s vision into actionable business plans, evaluate opportunities, anticipate challenges, and guide decisions across multiple projects. Senior project managers will lead day-to-day project execution; you’ll oversee their work, set portfolio priorities, and ensure decisions support the company’s financial and strategic objectives.

The ideal candidate combines substantial hands-on development experience with sound business judgment, financial acumen, creative problem-solving, and a track record of building and leading teams.

What you’ll do

• Lead the development portfolio, setting priorities and guiding projects from feasibility and acquisition through entitlements, financing, construction, and completion.
• Establish portfolio-wide schedules, budgets, milestones, and reporting standards.
• Identify risks and dependencies, recommend solutions, and elevate key decisions early.
• Allocate team resources and establish clear accountability for execution.
• Work with the Founder & CEO and CFO to shape project capitalization strategies and portfolio funding priorities.
• Evaluate financing alternatives, capital requirements, development economics, and the implications of major business decisions.
• Review underwriting, budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and sensitivities to assess feasibility and risk.
• Work with the Founder & CEO and Design Director to establish development processes that support the design vision and ensure projects are delivered as intended.
• Supervise and support senior project managers; coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and other partners.
• Guide entitlement, permitting, design development, procurement, and construction planning.
• Establish controls for budget and scope changes, contingency use, and change orders.
• Help shape the development team, identify hiring needs, and recruit, mentor, and develop team members.
• Strengthen coordination across development, finance, design, construction, and operations.
• Serve as a trusted thought partner to the Founder & CEO and represent the company with public agencies, lenders, investors, and project partners.

What you’ll bring

• Significant progressive experience in real estate development, including leadership across multiple projects and development personnel.
• A track record of delivering multifamily projects through the full development lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of development finance, capital structures, underwriting, construction financing, and project cash flow.
• Experience managing senior project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Success building or improving development processes and supporting organizational growth.
• Strong knowledge of entitlements, permitting, design coordination, construction budgets, contracts, and project delivery.
• The ability to move comfortably between portfolio strategy and detailed project problem-solving.
• Clear communication, strong negotiation skills, and sound judgment under pressure.
• Los Angeles development experience preferred; familiarity with affordable and workforce housing is highly valuable.
