Role Description

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies related to major gifts, annual giving, donor relations, sponsorships, campaigns, fundraising events, donor stewardship, and development communications, with clear accountability for revenue performance, donor engagement, and retention outcomes. This role is first and foremost a donor development and fundraising leadership position. While events, communications, and marketing support are part of the portfolio, success in this role depends on the ability to build and manage donor relationships, develop and execute fundraising strategy, personally solicit gifts, and move donors from initial engagement through long‑term stewardship.

Reports To

Executive Director

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual Resource Development Plan with measurable goals, timelines, and performance metrics.
  • Create and monitor development dashboards and key performance indicators, including revenue, donor retention, donor acquisition, donor reactivation, donor upgrades, sponsorships, and campaign outcomes.
  • Lead fundraising efforts including major gifts, annual giving, donor appeals, direct mail, online giving, recurring giving, year‑end campaigns, and sponsorship initiatives.
  • Build, manage, and advance relationships with donors, prospects, sponsors, foundations, and community partners.
  • Lead donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and recognition strategies across multiple giving levels.
  • Personally participate in donor asks and investment conversations with confidence, professionalism, and strategic follow‑through.
  • Oversee donor retention and re‑engagement efforts, including use of LYBUNT and SYBUNT strategies.
  • Develop and manage donor moves‑management strategies from prospect identification through stewardship.
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors.
  • Strengthen Board engagement in fundraising and donor relationship‑building.
Events & Sponsorship Development
  • Provide strategic leadership for fundraising events to ensure they support donor engagement, visibility, and revenue goals.
  • Oversee event fundraising strategy, sponsorship development, donor experience, and post‑event stewardship.
  • Work with staff, committees, and volunteers to support strong execution, accountability, and follow‑up.
  • Monitor event performance, including gross and net revenue, sponsor retention, and donor conversion opportunities.
Communications & Engagement
  • Provide strategic leadership for development‑related communications and marketing efforts in coordination with appropriate staff.
  • Oversee donor‑facing communications including appeals, acknowledgements, impact messaging, stewardship materials, and campaign messaging.
  • Ensure fundraising communications are clear, compelling, and aligned with Greer Relief’s mission and strategic priorities.
Leadership & Reporting
  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and contribute to organizational planning and strategy.
  • Supervise and support the Outreach Administrator with clear accountability and professional development.
  • Oversee use of the donor database/CRM for donor segmentation, portfolio management, pipeline tracking, reporting, and fundraising analysis.
  • Use CRM data to guide donor strategy, monitor portfolio activity, and measure fundraising performance.
  • Provide regular fundraising reports and updates to the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and Board.
  • Develop, oversee, and monitor the Marketing and Development budget, ensuring expenditures are strategic, fiscally responsible, and aligned with fundraising goals, communications priorities, and organizational objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance while maintaining clear separation between fundraising and accounting functions.
General Responsibilities
  • Represent Greer Relief professionally in the community and at public events.
  • Attend staff, board, and committee meetings as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in donor and fundraising work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Passion for Greer Relief’s mission and community impact.
  • Strong relationship‑building, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward donor relationships across multiple giving levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage donor strategy, including major donor development and donor re‑engagement.
  • Ability to analyze fundraising progress and use data to guide decisions.
  • Ability to lead projects, people, and priorities with sound judgment and initiative.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, accountability, and follow‑through.
  • Confidence and demonstrated ability to make direct asks and engage donors, sponsors, and prospects in charitable investment conversations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, marketing, communications, public relations, or related field preferred. Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising or advancement experience required, including direct responsibility for donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and annual fundraising strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in major gifts, annual giving, sponsorship development, donor retention, and stewardship required.
  • Demonstrated experience using donor segmentation and re‑engagement strategies to support donor retention and reactivation required; familiarity with LYBUNT and SYBUNT concepts strongly preferred.
  • Experience using a donor database/CRM to manage donor portfolios, track donor activity, segment appeals, monitor retention/reactivation, and generate fundraising reports required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience personally soliciting and closing charitable gifts strongly preferred.
  • Grant writing, event marketing, or communications experience alone is not sufficient for this role.
Schedule

Full‑time, exempt position with occasional evening and weekend hours.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Experience with donor database/CRM systems; CharityProud experience a plus
  • Familiarity with email marketing, social media, Canva, and WordPress preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
  • Ability to move throughout the office, attend meetings, participate in events, and engage with donors, partners, and community members in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment as needed to complete job responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Transportation

Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required for work‑related travel.

Compensation

$60,000–$75,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
