Job summary

Sun Life U.S. seeks a Director of Data Science to lead an analytics agile squad within the Business Analytics function. You will advance ML and AI to improve underwriting and pricing decisions across Sun Life US group businesses.

You will build a high-performing team of data scientists, establish best practices, and partner with stakeholders, technology, and governance to ensure reliable, explainable solutions that meet business needs and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Programming in Python and SQL; knowledge of data environments (e.g., Snowflake, Dataiku)
• Experience leading analytical solutions combining structured and unstructured information
• Experience applying analytics to underwriting, pricing, risk selection, portfolio management in insurance
• BS/MS/PhD in a statistical, mathematical, or technical field
• 10+/8+/6+ years developing and scaling data science or advanced analytics solutions

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced analytics solution development for underwriting, pricing and related decision processes
• Shape and maintain a prioritized roadmap of high-value use cases
• Translate business problems into analytics product requirements and adoption plans
• Evaluate opportunities to improve multi-step business processes with human oversight
• Partner with underwriting, actuarial, product, distribution, finance, technology and governance teams
• Apply data science, ML, AI, validation and quality controls to ensure reliable solutions
• Drive adoption through training, feedback and change management
• Manage and develop a team of data scientists
• Monitor performance and data quality to identify enhancements
• Communicate technical concepts and business impact to diverse audiences
