Job summary

Sun Life U.S. is seeking a Director of Data Science to lead an analytics agile squad within Business Analytics. The role drives advanced analytics, ML and AI to improve underwriting, pricing, and related decisions across Sun Life US group businesses.

You will build a high-impact team, set best practices, and partner with stakeholders to ensure reliable, explainable solutions with strong governance. Reporting to the AVP, Business Analytics, you will shape a roadmap of high-value use cases,

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise with a broad range of programming languages, applications and data environments (e.g., Python, SQL, Snowflake, Dataiku)
• Demonstrated expertise in data science including conditioning, modeling, integration, visualization, deployment support, and ongoing monitoring
• Strong knowledge of the statistical, machine learning, and analytical foundations of data science.
• Experience leading analytical solutions that combine structured and unstructured information and translate complex inputs into reliable, business-ready insights, recommendations, or decision support.
• Experience applying analytics to underwriting, pricing, risk selection, portfolio management, or related insurance decisions.

• Lead advanced analytics solution development for underwriting, pricing, and related decision processes.
• Shape and maintain a prioritized roadmap of high-value use cases aligned with business strategy.
• Translate business problems into analytics product requirements and adoption plans.
• Evaluate opportunities to improve multi-step processes with better data gathering, analysis, and decisions.
• Partner with underwriting, actuarial, product, distribution, finance, tech, and other stakeholders to deliver scalable, compliant solutions.
• Apply data science, ML, AI, validation, and quality controls for reliable, explainable results.
• Drive adoption through training, feedback, and change management.
• Manage and develop a team of data scientists and prioritize delivery.
• Monitor performance, data quality, model behavior, and business impact post-deployment.
• Communicate technical concepts and risks clearly to stakeholders
