Job summary

PenFed Credit Union in Tysons, VA is seeking a Director of Enterprise Data Governance to lead second line oversight of data governance and risk across the enterprise. You will report to the AVP of Enterprise Risk Management and collaborate with business units and the CDAO to raise data maturity and policy adherence.

Responsibilities include independent review of first line controls, KPI/KRIs, and regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years in data governance/management/risk in financial services.
• 3+ years overseeing data governance programs.
• 5+ years of direct management experience.
• Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK), data quality, metadata, and lineage.
• Second Line of Defense/ERF experience.
• Financial services focus, especially consumer banking.
• Proven regulators/auditors engagement experience.
• Strategic/analytic thinking, ability to manage multiple projects.
• Strong written/verbal communication; independent execution.
• AI/ML governance experience and AI tool knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enhance and maintain PenFed's enterprise data governance framework and policies.
• Provide independent oversight to first line data management and risk controls.
• Define and monitor enterprise data governance KPIs/KRIs and data quality risk.
• Oversee data ownership, stewardship models, and clear role responsibilities.
• Challenge data risk assessments and remediation plans.
• Drive continuous improvement in data quality, incidents, and escalation.
• Review risk identification and assessment of data risk categories.
• Design testing procedures and independently test controls and compliance.
• Collaborate with ERM and risk teams on data-related events and vulnerabilities.
• Advise senior leaders on data governance, risk, AI/ML governance, and emerging tech.
• Partner with Technology, InfoSec, Data Privacy, Compliance and business units.
• Govern major data programs and digital transformation initiatives.
• Promote data-driven culture and enterprise data literacy training.
