Job summary

The New York Post is seeking an experienced Director of Data & Analytics to lead the Data Science & Analytics team in NYC. Reporting into the VP of Data Science & Analytics, this high-impact role shapes data-driven decisions to grow audience and improve commercial performance.

You will mentor a 3+ person analytics team, partner with Editorial, Commercial, Product, Marketing, and Data Engineering, and deliver rigorous analyses and data products to guide decision-making across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field preferred.
  • 6-10+ years of progressive experience in data, analytics, business intelligence, or a related discipline, preferably within media, entertainment, sports, digital publishing, advertising, or another fast-paced consumer business.
  • Previous experience leading and developing a team of analysts, with the ability to balance people leadership with hands-on individual contribution; presenting insights to senior leadership and collaborating with newsroom on urgent questions.
  • Strong track record of partnering with senior stakeholders across multiple functions and using data to influence business decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting both commercial/business and editorial or content-oriented stakeholders is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with BI and visualization tools such as Looker, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience working with Python and large, complex datasets.
  • Proven ability to independently scope, execute, and communicate complex analytical projects from start to finish.
  • Experience driving data and analytics initiatives within digital media, direct-to-consumer, marketing, advertising, sports, or other high-volume digital environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern cloud data architectures, data warehouses, lakehouse environments, multi-cloud architectures, real-time data and data productization.
  • Expertise in media measurement methodologies and technologies, including experimentation, attribution, and MMM.
  • Strong understanding of campaign analytics, audience measurement, data extraction, media optimization, and performance reporting.
  • Ability to translate complex technical or analytical concepts into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Advanced understanding of media, audience, engagement, and commercial metrics and their application to business decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify meaningful patterns and insights within large datasets and communicate those findings effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with data scientists, engineers, newsroom editors, and commercial executives.
  • Note: This position will be expected to adhere to our hybrid work model, requiring three (3) days per week in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing analytics team, managing a team of 3+ Data/Business Analysts and mentoring, prioritizing, coaching, and professional development.
  • Establish the strategy, priorities, and operating model for analytics across the organization, focusing on high-impact opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted data partner to senior stakeholders across Editorial and Commercial, translating business questions into analytical approaches and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with newsroom leadership to develop insights that support audience growth, content strategy, engagement, performance, and decision-making.
  • Analyze campaign performance, audience behavior, revenue opportunities, and media performance with Commercial, Advertising, Marketing, and other teams.
  • Act as a hands-on analytics leader who can investigate complex questions, work with large datasets, build analyses, and deliver insights.
  • Develop and maintain automated reporting, dashboards, and data products for timely visibility into key metrics.
  • Champion a data-driven culture by explaining why things happen and what actions data supports.
  • Lead development and integration of advanced analytics models to improve media performance and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering and Data Science to integrate data from marketing clean rooms and other sources.
  • Improve data accessibility, quality, and usability and build scalable data products with Product, Technology, and Data teams.
  • Partner with senior management to refine business and media strategies based on data-driven insights.
  • Establish analytics best practices including measurement, experimentation, attribution, and media effectiveness.
