Overview:

We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader across cross-functional teams, driving strategic direction and delivering scalable data solutions in complex, dynamic environments. This pivotal role involves designing and maintaining enterprise-level data infrastructures, managing key client relationships, guiding governance processes, and promoting the adoption of emerging technologies.

Ideal candidates will have deep expertise in biomedical informatics, metadata management, and regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA), combined with a strong passion for mentoring and collaborative innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Act as a senior data strategist and trusted advisor to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Lead and govern partner prioritisation processes to ensure strategic alignment and transparency.
  • Develop tactical strategies that scale across clients and business units.
  • Evaluate and champion emerging technologies through proof-of-concepts and innovation pilots.
  • Mentor junior engineers and analysts, particularly in areas of regulatory compliance and development standards.

Technical Execution & Infrastructure Design

  • Architect and maintain robust data systems, pipelines, and ETL processes across heterogeneous sources.
  • Build scalable reporting infrastructures tailored to diverse client needs.
  • Define and maintain enterprise data standards and metadata across initiatives.
  • Apply biomedical informatics methodologies to support both research and operational objectives.
  • Develop and maintain architecture templates and documentation for informatics solutions.
  • Serve as a senior technical expert within multidisciplinary teams, including analysts, PMs, and data architects.
  • Guide solution development and infrastructure design across various business units.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of data applications and components.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience managing and scaling data systems in research or healthcare environments.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional teams and mentoring engineering professionals.
  • Expert proficiency in data engineering tools (e.g., Python, Spark, SQL, Airflow, dbt).
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA and other healthcare compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with enterprise data governance, metadata management, and data lineage.
  • Ability to rapidly adopt and implement emerging technologies and industry best practices.
