Position Summary

The Director of Credit Administration is responsible for leading the credit function of the bank, ensuring sound underwriting practices, prudent risk management, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines. This leadership role is designed for an experienced credit professional—ideally someone who has progressed through various roles within a Credit Department and is prepared to step into a top credit leadership position. The role is well-suited for an individual currently serving as a Credit Manager or in a similar capacity within a community bank.

The institution places a high priority on professional development and internal advancement. It fosters a culture of growth and long-term retention, providing team members with the tools, support, and opportunities to expand their skills and advance their careers within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the Credit Administration department, overseeing underwriting, risk grading, credit analysis, and policy adherence.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on credit structuring, approval processes, and portfolio risk management across all loan types, including commercial and consumer lending.
  • Collaborate closely with lending officers to maintain high credit quality standards while supporting strategic growth objectives.
  • Maintain and update the credit policy to ensure alignment with current regulations, best practices, and the institution’s risk tolerance.
  • Monitor loan portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and provide reporting to senior leadership and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Review and approve credit requests within delegated authority and prepare recommendations for executive or committee-level consideration.
  • Lead and mentor a team of credit analysts or underwriters, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and operational excellence.
  • Support the professional growth of team members through coaching, ongoing training, and clearly defined advancement pathways.
  • Serve as the primary contact for credit-related matters during audits, regulatory examinations, and internal reviews.
  • Participate in strategic planning discussions with executive leadership, contributing insight on credit trends, opportunities, and risks.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in commercial credit and loan underwriting, preferably within a community bank environment.
  • Prior experience in a Credit Manager or equivalent senior-level credit role is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in loan structuring, credit analysis, and risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and credit-related banking regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to guide teams and collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field required; advanced degree or completion of a graduate banking program is a plus.

About the Organization

This is a relationship-focused community financial institution committed to serving local businesses and individuals with integrity and personalized service. The organization is equally dedicated to its internal team, offering a supportive and collaborative workplace culture where employee success and long-term retention are top priorities. Team members are encouraged to pursue continued professional growth and are provided with clear paths for advancement within the organization.
