Job description

VP of Controls Engineering

Experience: VP

Salary: $220,000 - $275,000 per year

Job Details

As Director of Engineering & Controls, you'll own the integration business's P&L and lead its engineering, controls, and panel-shop operations. This is a business leadership role first. We want someone who has run a controls or integration business commercially, not only managed its projects.

What you'll do:
  • Own a P&L of $20M+, including EBITDA, margin, budgeting, staffing, and utilization, and build a plan to grow it.
  • Work with business development and sales to shape strategy, scope and price work, and build long-term customer relationships.
  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering and controls teams, and put structure, standards, and accountability in place across projects.
  • Serve as the technical authority on control system architecture: PLCs, HMIs, SCADA and supervisory systems, DCS interfaces, industrial networking, and ICs cybersecurity.
  • Partner with project management and operations so work is delivered safely, on time, and on budget.
What you bring:
  • A track record of P&L ownership and commercial growth in industrial automation, controls, or systems integration.
  • Hands-on grounding in PLC and SCADA-based process and manufacturing automation. Utility or substation automation backgrounds are not a match for this role.
  • Experience in oil & gas, midstream, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • A proven ability to build and lead engineering teams.
  • A BS in Electrical or Controls Engineering or a related field.
  • A PE and experience with panel shop or UL 508A are a plus.
A bit about us

We're a national leader in industrial electrical services, backed by significant investment and growing fast. Our field teams support some of the most demanding operating environments in the country. A few years ago we added a systems integration and controls business to our platform. It includes a dedicated panel-building facility and a strong customer base in oil & gas, midstream, and advanced manufacturing. The integration group operates out of a regional hub in North Texas.

Why join us?

We're the company others in our space measure themselves against, and demand for our services is running ahead of our capacity. Winning work isn't the constraint. Delivering it well and at scale is. The integration business has good margins, blue-chip customers, and a dedicated business development team. What it needs now is a business leader to bring it stability, direction, and a clear growth plan. The foundation is already in place. This role builds on it, with the resources and executive support of a much larger organization behind you.
