This role sets the strategy, processes, and governance for managing contracts across their full lifecycle, from intake and review through execution, administration, and closeout, while protecting the Company’s commercial and legal interests. The role is not responsible for negotiating contracts, rather this individual will develop and lead a team that will support the Legal and Operational departments in facilitating the contracting process and contract management post-execution. The position will be based in our Houston, Texas office located at 12301 Kurland Drive, Houston, Texas 77034 and will report into Dashiell’s Legal Department.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Build, staff, and lead the contract management group within the Legal Department, including hiring, developing, and mentoring contract managers and administrators.
  • Establish the contract management strategy, framework, and standard operating procedures for the full contract lifecycle: intake, review with operational leads, administration, and closeout.
  • Coordinate the intake, review, and administration of customer, subcontractor, supplier, and vendor agreements, and elevate nonstandard terms and issues to Legal counsel and business leaders who handle negotiations.
  • Oversee contract administration, including subcontracting and related flow-downs, amendments, change orders, notices, claims documentation, and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Partner with Operations, Project Management, Procurement, Finance, Risk and Insurance, and Business Development to support contract requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track and report key metrics, such as contract volume, cycle time, and renewals, to Legal and executive leadership.
  • Train business stakeholders on contract policies, processes, and requirements.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.
How You Will Make an Impact
  • Build and lead a consistent, scalable contract management function that shortens contract cycle times and reduces risk across the Company.
  • Provide project, operations, and business development teams support and clear guidance on contract requirements and obligations.
  • Provide leadership with reliable data on contract performance, obligations, and exposure.
  • Develop and retain a strong team that is a trusted partner to the business.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience

A bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, construction management, engineering, or a related field is required. Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree (4 years of relevant experience = Bachelor’s).

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive contract management, contract administration, or commercial contracting experience, including at least 3 years leading a team.
  • Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM), Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM), or similar certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop a strong team, including establishing a new function.
  • Strong working knowledge of contract law principles, risk allocation, and commercial terms such as indemnity, limitation of liability, insurance, payment, change, and termination provisions.
  • Proven ability to evaluate contract terms and clearly communicate risk to negotiators and business leaders.
  • Experience with construction, engineering, or infrastructure contracts, including master service agreements, subcontracts, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) agreements, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience selecting and implementing contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems and contract repositories.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with sound judgment on when to elevate issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders and partners across the business.
