Job description

Bay State Physical Therapy, a leading provider of outpatient physical therapy in the Northeast, is seeking passionate physical therapists to join our team.

We are seeking a Director of Construction to lead all construction and renovation projects for our growing network of outpatient physical therapy clinics across the Northeast. This role is ideal for someone who has managed the build-out of multiple retail, health & fitness, or other customer-facing locations. You will partner with consultants, landlord representatives, cross-functional departments, and the business teams to ensure project goals and requirements are clearly defined and completed – with the goal of creating welcoming, high-quality spaces that support exceptional patient care. We typically build between ten and fourteen new clinics each year and work on as many clinic relocations and significant renovations. We strive to create an environment in which patients enjoy their treatment time with our providers, and our providers get to work with and learn from each other in an open, collaborative setting. Our clinics are generally between 2,500 and 4,000 square feet, with an open treatment approach, similar to a boutique fitness facility. We generally have one to three private treatment rooms and a breakroom for staff. We also have a welcoming front desk staff and area for patients to wait for their treatment times. Said simply, our clinics are modern, efficient environments that focus on eliminating pain and improving functional performance.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead all phases of construction projects including the design, budget, permits, contracts, reporting, construction and delivery, on schedule and within budget.
  • Partner with internal real estate team, operations, external developers, and contractors to evaluate new store opportunities, develop proposed scope, budget and schedule, analyze feasibility and present proposed terms to senior leadership team.
  • Implement project tracking mechanisms to provide timely and concise updates on project progress to senior management and key stakeholders, capturing key decisions, developing assumptions, and identifying and managing all risks and dependencies.
  • Review schedule/budget and resolve project issues.
  • Lead procurement and bidding process for general contractors and negotiate terms.
  • Conduct site visits to verify that all work is completed in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Develop preventative maintenance plans to support the long-term operation of our clinics.
  • Maintain professional relationship with all contracted suppliers, vendors, landlords, and property managers to ensure good communication and mutual trust and respect.
Requirements
  • Experience supporting multi-site retail, healthcare, fitness, restaurant, banking, hospitality, or similar organizations.
  • At least 10 years' experience in construction management.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously without losing attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success taking initiative and being held accountable for outcomes, with the ability to anticipate needs and take action to address them.
  • Background working with vendors/contractors with experience in contractor management.
  • Ability to be flexible, remain calm under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, and develop solutions.
  • Strong judgment and demonstrated success acting in the best interest of the organization - with principles of integrity and a commitment to high professional standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Some weekend and evening work required.
  • Additional travel is required on a project specific basis.
  • Bonus Potential of 15-25% of base compensation paid as projects are completed.
