Job summary

The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) seeks a Director of Conservation to lead the conservation program for nearly 100,000 artworks, shaping policy, research, and long-term care. The role oversees conservators, technicians, and fellows, reporting to the Chief Curator and collaborating across departments to balance risk, value, access, and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in art conservation or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years of conservator experience with administrative/supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills; budget management experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Conservation Department and oversee operations.
• Lead staff development, mentorship, and evaluation of personnel.
• Develop conservation policies, workflows, and budgets aligned with institutional priorities.
• Represent the department in collaboration with senior leadership and curatorial colleagues.
