Baltimore Museum of Art seeks an experienced Director of Conservation to lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for treatment, research, outreach, and long-term care of its nearly 100,000 artworks.

The role requires a visionary leader with expertise in conservation, ethics, and sustainability who can align departmental priorities with the museum’s strategic goals while collaborating across divisions and external partners.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in art conservation.
• Minimum 10 years as conservator with administrative experience.
• Strong leadership and mentoring ability.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English.

Responsabilités

• Provide visionary and day-to-day leadership for the Conservation Department, ensuring operational excellence and the highest professional standards.
• Foster a collaborative, transparent, and values-driven culture that supports experimentation, staff well-being, and professional growth.
• Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff and contract professionals.
• Develop and implement conservation policies balancing risk, value, access, equity, sustainability, and long-term impact.
