Reporting to the vice president for marketing and communications, the director of conference and event services plans, develops, implements, and coordinates revenue-generating activities with external constituents; collaborates with internal departments/divisions in the implementation and coordination of lectures and other events; leads or assists in the planning and implementation of high-profile College events; works with the marketing office to develop promotional materials; and coordinates and supervises staff for maximum effectiveness.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Direct and manage the logistics of internal college events; works with various College committees and/or offices (admission, alumni and constituent relations, the Graduate School, and student engagement and orientation) to plan and implement the details of each event.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction in providing a centralized “one-stop shop” that manages facilities and venues, including reservation approvals, planning, catering, security, parking, and other logistics.
  • Develop marketing strategies and aggressively promote the use of campus facilities to maximize their utilization, occupancy, and net revenues while resolving problems arising in connection with operational plans and schedules.
  • Develop, implement, and host conferences, events, weddings, and camps (both day and residential) that highlight the College’s natural beauty and charm.
  • Capitalize on Frederick as a destination and attract high-profile summer and year-round academic conferences and camps to the area by coordinating with partners and the external community.
  • Build and foster relationships with the internal and external community.
  • Supervise the day-to-day operation of the office, including the supervision of one staff member.
  • Support the Office of the President to plan and execute public and private events.
  • Manage one professional staff member and a seasonal staff of 8-12.
  • Be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years’ experience in a related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices used in the successful management of multi-purpose special event facilities and the hospitality industry.

Compensation

This is a position with an annual starting salary range of $61,200 to $68,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications. Hood College offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, and tuition benefits.
