THE ROLE
This is a strategic leadership position. You’re building and expanding a regional data center commissioning practice-driving business development with hyperscalers and colo operators, strengthening client relationships, and establishing operational standards that set the bar for your region.
We work with major data center developers, hyperscale operators, and strategic colo/wholesale providers across Northern Virginia, Texas, Phoenix, and Atlanta. You’ll oversee new business development, proposal strategy, project scoping, and identify value-added solutions while maintaining technical excellence across all commissioning programs.
Your team: 4-8+ commissioning engineers depending on practice growth. Your remit: lead the regional data center commissioning practice-business strategy, financial performance, client relationships, team development, operational standards, and project delivery excellence.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Practice Leadership & Business Development
- Lead regional data center commissioning practice: business strategy, financial targets, client portfolio growth, team development, and operational excellence
- Drive business development-develop proposals, scope complex data center programs, build relationships with hyperscalers, colo operators, facility leaders, and GCs
- Serve as senior client-facing leader and trusted advisor for commissioning services across data center verticals (new construction, expansion, retro-commissioning)
- Identify new market opportunities and value-added offerings (continuous commissioning programs, performance optimization, operational standards documentation)
- Establish strategic direction, pricing, resource allocation, and practice profitability
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
- Oversee large, complex data center commissioning programs-mechanical systems, electrical infrastructure, UPS/backup power, controls, fire suppression, and integrated facility systems
- Provide technical leadership across chilled water systems, hot/cold aisle containment, PDU architecture, power distribution validation, UPS paralleling, backup generator load-shedding logic, fire alarm, and controls systems
- Lead commissioning plan development based on data center standards (Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, TAB)
- Own pre-operational readiness protocols-FAT/SAT procedures, first-power protocols, facility acceptance criteria
- Ensure alignment with owner requirements, design intent, and operational standards from design through handoff
- Interface with hyperscale partners on technical requirements, warranty terms, and operational handoff
Team & Operational Excellence
- Build, hire, mentor, and manage a high-performing data center commissioning team
- Establish processes, tools, documentation standards, and quality control practices
- Develop staff capabilities and create clear career pathways in data center commissioning
- Track metrics-punch list velocity, project profitability, client satisfaction, schedule risk, deviation root-cause analysis
- Stay current with emerging data center technologies, hyperscale design standards, and evolving commissioning best practices
