Morgan Olson is a leading provider of innovative commercial vehicle solutions. As we continue to grow and expand, we are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Business Development to drive the identification of new markets, diversify our business, and lead a team of Business Development Managers. This leadership role will be key in helping the company achieve its growth objectives through market expansion and the development of new product and service offerings.

Job Objective:
The Director of Business Development will be responsible for leading the development and execution of strategies to identify new market opportunities, diversify the business, and expand Morgan Olson’s reach. This role will also include the leadership and management of the Business Development team, ensuring alignment and collaboration across departments to achieve company growth goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of market diversification, strategic thinking, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
These activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Market Identification & Strategy Development: Lead the identification of new and emerging markets, conducting thorough research and analysis to uncover growth opportunities. Develop comprehensive market entry strategies to diversify Morgan Olson’s product and service offerings, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage, mentor, and support a team of Business Development Managers. Provide guidance on market expansion strategies, sales tactics, and relationship management to ensure the team is effectively driving business growth.
  • Market Expansion: Oversee the execution of strategies to penetrate new markets, attract new customer segments, and expand the company’s product and service offerings in line with customer needs and market trends.
  • Partnership Development: Identify and negotiate strategic partnerships that facilitate market expansion. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including potential business partners, to drive market entry and enhance brand presence.
  • Business Growth & Diversification: Lead efforts to diversify the company’s revenue streams by introducing new products and services in untapped markets. Work cross-functionally with marketing, sales, and product teams to ensure market strategies align with overall company goals.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Ensure that Business Development Managers effectively build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in new markets, driving customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Sales & Contract Negotiation: Oversee the negotiation of pricing, contracts, and terms with new and existing customers, ensuring profitable and sustainable business relationships in newly targeted markets.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including Sales, Marketing, Product Development, and Operations, to execute market strategies, ensure product alignment, and drive successful market entries.
  • Performance Management & Reporting: Track and report on the performance of market expansion strategies and the success of the Business Development team. Set clear targets and KPIs to ensure continuous improvement and growth.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel 60% of the time across the US and Canada to support the team, meet with key customers, and identify new market opportunities.
  • Adhere to Policies: Ensure compliance with company quality and safety policies, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement across all business development activities.

Knowledge & Experience:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven Leadership Experience: Significant experience leading and managing a team of business development professionals, with a demonstrated ability to drive market expansion and achieve business growth objectives.
  • Commercial Vehicle Market Expertise: Experience in the commercial vehicle industry, with a deep understanding of market trends, customer needs, and product diversification.
  • Strategic Thinking & Market Research: Expertise in market research and strategy development, with the ability to identify and act upon new business opportunities that diversify the company’s portfolio.
  • Strong CRM & Sales Management: Advanced CRM skills, preferably with Salesforce, to track opportunities, monitor team performance, and manage customer relationships.
  • Sales & Contract Negotiation Expertise: Extensive experience negotiating pricing, contracts, and business deals, ensuring mutually beneficial terms for both Morgan Olson and its customers.
  • Communication & Leadership Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team while effectively managing cross-functional collaboration.
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, for reporting, presentations, and strategic planning.
