Job summary

Barrington James is seeking a Director of Business Development for Biologics & ADC Drug Substance on the West Coast (Remote). You’ll own the full sales cycle from initial conversations and scoping through proposals, negotiations and contract execution, targeting biopharma and CDMO partners across California, Oregon, Washington, and nearby markets.

• Lead technical and commercial discussions with client CMC, MSAT, and procurement teams.
• Own proposals, pricing, and contract negotiations (MSAs, quality agreements, WO).Represent the company at industry events (BIO, DCAT, CPhI).
• Partner with project management and site leadership to scope programs and ensure smooth handoffs.
• Maintain accurate forecasting and CRM reporting; provide market intelligence to leadership.

Director of Business Development, Biologics & ADC Drug Substance | West Coast (Remote)

The role

You’ll own new business development across the West Coast, leading with drug substance (mAb and ADC) and bringing in emerging biotech and mid-size pharma clients. You’ll own the full sales cycle, from first conversation and technical scoping through to proposal, negotiation and contract. Working closely with technical, MSAT and operations leaders, you’ll turn early-stage programs into long-term manufacturing partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Build and manage a pipeline of biotech and pharma accounts across California, the Pacific Northwest and the wider West Coast
• Drive new business for biologics and ADC drug substance, from early development through clinical and commercial supply
• Lead technical and commercial discussions with client CMC, technical operations and procurement teams
• Own proposals, pricing and contract negotiations (MSAs, quality agreements, work orders)
• Represent the company at key industry events (BIO, DCAT, CPhI, and West Coast biotech meetings)
• Partner with project management, MSAT and site leadership to make sure programs are scoped realistically and handed over cleanly
• Maintain accurate forecasting and CRM reporting, and provide market intelligence to leadership

What we're looking for

• Strong BD experience in the CDMO/CMO space, ideally selling drug substance services
• Experience with ADCs strongly preferred (conjugation, linker-payload, HPAPI-adjacent handling); extensive biologics (mAb, recombinant protein) experience also considered
• Proven track record of closing multi-million-dollar programs and consistently hitting or exceeding quota
• Established network among West Coast biotech and pharma decision-makers
• Solid technical grounding in CMC, tech transfer and the biologics development lifecycleComfortable selling consultatively to both scientific and commercial stakeholders
• Based on the West Coast, with travel to client sites and the manufacturing site as needed
• Bachelor's degree in a life science or related field; advanced degree a plus
