Job description

Overview

Business Development – Construction

Location: Open (Preference: Salt Lake City, UT or Phoenix, AZ)

CP Build is a growing construction partner specializing in interior finish scopes, known for delivering consistent quality and strong field execution across multifamily, hospitality, and related markets. We work closely with owners, developers, and general contractors to provide reliable, high-performing project delivery. What sets CP Build apart is our ability to execute at scale while maintaining a hands-on, partnership-driven approach—our clients rely on us to proactively solve problems, stay ahead of schedule pressures, and deliver a consistent experience from preconstruction through final install. We value people who take ownership, move quickly, and build trust in the market. This role plays a direct part in driving our growth.

About The Role: This is a true business development role—you will be responsible for creating your own opportunities, building relationships, and bringing in new business. You won’t be handed a pipeline. Instead, you’ll own your market, get out in front of clients, and build a book of business through relationships and persistence. You will also own the client relationship from the first introduction through project award and ongoing partnership. Internally, you will serve as the driver of each opportunity—aligning teams, setting expectations, and shaping the overall client experience from pursuit through execution.

Responsibilities
  • Build and manage your own pipeline through outreach, networking, and market presence
  • Prospect and develop relationships with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and partners
  • Create new opportunities and lead them from first conversation to close
  • Own the client relationship throughout the full lifecycle—from initial connection to awarded work and beyond
  • Informally lead internal teams (estimating, project coordination, project management, and installation) to align on strategy, pricing, and delivery approach
  • Set the tone for each project by driving communication, urgency, and accountability across teams
  • Partner with internal teams to position work competitively and win projects
  • Grow existing relationships and identify additional opportunities within current clients
  • Stay active in the market (events, associations, meetings) to build visibility
What Success Looks Like
  • Strong, consistent pipeline generation
  • Hitting or exceeding sales targets
  • Growth in your assigned market
  • Well-aligned internal teams delivering a strong client experience
  • Repeat business driven through relationships you’ve built
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within construction or subcontracting
  • Proven ability to generate your own opportunities and close new business
  • Established book of business and industry relationships that can be leveraged immediately
  • Experience selling into complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong network of owners, developers, architects, engineers, and related partners
  • Ability to operate independently while influencing and aligning internal teams
Required Experience

Direct experience selling interior construction scopes such as:

  • Flooring
  • Cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Other finish trades

Strong understanding of how these scopes are bid, packaged, and awarded

Existing relationships tied to these scopes within your market

Additional Strengths
  • Experience in Multifamily, Student Housing, Hospitality, or Senior Living
  • Ability to work across multiple project types as business needs evolve
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Organized, proactive, and results-driven
Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
Compensation
  • Base salary + uncapped commission structure
  • Commission directly tied to projects secured and revenue generated
  • Top performers typically earn $250K+ annually, with additional upside for those who build and scale a strong book of business over time
Benefits (Summary)
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with above-market employer contributions
  • Annual HSA company match up to $3,500
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Mileage reimbursement or vehicle program (as applicable)
Why This Role
  • Direct impact on company growth
  • High autonomy—own your pipeline, relationships, and results
  • Ability to influence both the sale and how the work is delivered
