Job summary

Matrix Design Group, Inc. in Denver, CO, seeks a Director of Business Development to lead the proposal team and translate corporate goals into marketing initiatives. Salary range: $130,000.00 to $160,000.00 annually.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of progressive business development experience, strong leadership, and professional services marketing in AEC or related industries. This is a hybrid Denver-based role with competitive benefits including ESOP and healthcare.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field.
  • 10 years progressive business development experience including team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, plan, schedule, and manage the firm’s sales efforts.
  • Determine sales objectives to meet firmwide goals.
  • Manage CRM system to capture client data and track business development activity.
  • Work with technical staff to develop proposals and scopes of work and estimate fees.
  • Develop business development model and strategy seller-doer program.
  • Direct or develop training of employee’s firm-wide, including marketing and business development staff, as well as seller-doers.
  • Maintain visibility in professional and community organizations.
  • Develop long-term client relationships with the goal of making optimal go/no-go decisions, develop effective win strategies, and ensure the highest level of satisfaction and service.
  • Assess each potential pursuit regarding its ability to meet the firm’s strategic positioning and goals.
  • Represent the firm at the highest level to clients, peer organizations, and business associates.
  • Work with appropriate team members to create and execute a winning strategy for all key chases; ensure teams have identified the appropriate benefits and differentiators.
  • Continuously research and analyze market trends, emerging geographies, target sectors, and prospective clients to identify and prioritize strategic growth opportunities.
  • Travel, as needed.
  • Experience winning high-value A/E/C contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to build network of clients and partners.
  • Exhibits strong leadership, management, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Possesses foundational business management acumen, including planning, coordination, and decision-making skills.
  • Maintains a high standard of professional competence and technical proficiency.
  • Applies strong organizational skills to manage priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision while also contributing collaboratively in team environments.
  • Shows persistence and resilience in overcoming challenges and achieving objectives.
  • Consistently follows through on commitments and delivers reliable results.
  • Valid driver’s license, in conjunction with successfully passing the Company’s MVR screening.

Director of Business Development

The Director of Business Development, is a hands-on senior leadership role that combines strategic vision with day-to-day operational execution. This position oversees the proposal team and manages campaigns across all 13 business units, and works closely with Chief Strategy Officer, Director of Marketing and Communications, and senior leadership to translate corporate goals into actionable marketing initiatives.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 10 years of progressive business development experience, including team leadership, and experience in professional services marketing, with AEC or related industry experience strongly preferred. They are both strategic and execution-focused, capable of balancing multiple priorities, mentoring staff, managing cross-functional stakeholders and vendors, and maintaining high-quality standards. This is a new position and is a hybrid role based in Denver, CO.

Key strategic responsibilities
