Job summary

Hanover County Government is seeking an executive-level Department Head to lead the Building Officials division in enforcing the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and related regulations. The role directs plan reviews, inspections, and enforcement activities, while managing policy development and department budgets.

Qualifications

• Requires comprehensive knowledge of building construction practices, methods and materials.
• Thorough knowledge of Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and related laws.
• Ability to establish cooperative relationships with contractors, County officials and the public.

Responsibilities

• Plans and directs enforcing the building code, property maintenance code, unsafe building and weed overgrowth programs.
• Supervises plan review and inspection activities for building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems.
• Interprets the Building Code and issues modifications when warranted.
• Manages department policies, procedures and budget development.
