You will coordinate with the Fire Marshal’s office, review plans for compliance, and train staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in administrative management or technical and structural engineering.
  • Five years of progressively more responsible experience in construction and/or building inspection.
  • Certifiable as a Building Official in Virginia.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License and insurable.
  • Requires completion of NIMS IS-700 and IS-100 within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the operations of Building Inspections; oversees fees and permits.
  • Supervises inspection of buildings for code adherence across areas.
  • Ensures compliance with accessibility standards for new and existing buildings.
  • Coordinates with Fire Marshal’s offices for plan reviews and inspections.
  • Assists Zoning Office and other local staff as needed.
  • Provides staff with code books and updates; trains personnel.
  • Maintains records for code compliance and department actions.
  • Participates in the Project Evaluation Committee and budget development.
