The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks a Director of Benefits Administration to manage employee benefits programs. This in-person role involves directing health benefits administration, supervising staff, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Division of Risk Management and Insurance Services is currently looking for a well-qualified Director of Benefits Administration.
Benefits Administration is responsible for the management of medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, retirement plans, COBRA/AB528 continuation coverage, and various voluntary benefit programs such as optional life insurance and flexible spending accounts for eligible employees, retirees, and their dependents.

The Director of Benefits Administration directs, implements, educates, and administers a wide range of benefits and retirement programs for District employees and retirees.
The Director of Benefits Administration receives administrative direction from the Chief Risk Officer, and exercises supervision over subordinate managers and supervisors. General directions will be exercised over other lower-level personnel.
NOTE:This position is 100% in-person. Qualified candidates will report to physical worksites.

Entrance requirements are representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skill, and/or abilities.
EDUCATION: Graduation from a recognized college or university, preferably with a major in human resources, school business management, business or public administration, or a related field. Professional benefits certifications are preferable.
EXPERIENCE:Four (4) years of experience managing the implementation or administration of a health and welfare benefit and retirement program. At least two (2) years of the required experience must include supervision.
Special: A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.
SPECIAL NOTES: An employee in this class may be subject to the reporting requirements of the District’s Conflict of Interest Code.

Insurance: District paid premiums for your choice of several medical, dental, and vision for you and yourdependents; and life insurance plans.
Retirement: Membership in the California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS).
Vacation: 24 days each year.
Paid Holidays: Up to 13 days.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment assessment process. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment score. Hiring departments may make job offers to candidates on the top three ranks of the hiring list. Eligibility typically lasts for 12 months. The hiring list resulting from this assessment process may be used to fill open positions in related job classifications.
