Job summary

California State University, Chico's Music, Theatre and Dance Department seeks an Assistant Tenure-Track Professor to direct the college wind programs. The Director of Bands will lead the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Pep Band, and contribute to recruitment, outreach, and departmental activities.

Teaching will include conducting fundamentals, instrumental techniques, and possibly other music education courses.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in music or music education.
• Experience directing/conducting collegiate or university bands.
• Experience teaching classes in music education.
• Commitment to fostering a learning environment inclusive of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Direct/conduct the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Pep Band.
• Administer the band program with a focus on recruitment and outreach.
• Teach fundamentals of conducting and instrumental conducting.
• Provide leadership for the student band staff.
• Teach other music education areas and the music core as needed.
• Teach studio instruction.
• Organize productions and events such as Hiestand Memorial Alumni and Friends Concert and Choose Chico Day.
• Collaborate with the Director of Choral Activities on the Glorious Sounds of the Season fundraiser.
