Job summary

Haven House Services in Raleigh, NC, seeks a Director of Annual Giving to lead our year‑round fundraising program. Working with the Chief Development Officer and RD Team, you will plan and execute campaigns, recruit volunteers, and build donor stewardship across annual campaigns, year-end appeals, and executive challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 3-5 years of relevant experience in fundraising with a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong and persuasive writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Tech-savvy with experience using donor relationship management software and other fundraising-related programs and platforms preferred. Experience with Bloomerang a plus.
  • Excellent computer software skills including Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • A strong team player, who is also a self-starter with a desire to take on new challenges.
  • Initiative, creativity, reliability, flexibility, sense of humor, thoroughness, and accuracy.
  • Integrity in relationships with donors, prospective donors, volunteers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, recruit, and work with campaign leadership to create timeline, theme(s), and goals.
  • Strategize ongoing recruitment and year-long stewardship of annual campaign volunteers.

  • Schedule and host volunteer training and organizing campaign-related events.
  • Manage third-party events held during the Annual Campaign.

  • Work alongside Donor Relations Manager to acknowledge campaign supporters through the donor’s journey.
  • Track and evaluate campaign performance, using data to refine strategies.
  • Create the vision, framework, timeline, and strategies for year-end giving.

  • Create digital appeals and posts to support campaigns.
  • Plan list segmentation and create differentiated messaging for identified segments.
  • Identify ways to engage lapsed donors during the campaign and throughout the year.
  • Recruit at least 24 executives to participate in Executive Challenge.
  • Build challenge site, collateral, and templates to help executives reach fundraising goals.
  • Provide engagement opportunities for executives and donors.
  • Gather feedback post-challenge to identify improvements.

Summary:

The Director of Annual Giving is an essential part of the Resource Development team at Haven House Services, working collaboratively with the Chief Development Officer and RD Team to develop, implement, and evaluate Haven House’s year-round fundraising program.Key duties include the planning and execution of a successful peer-to-peer giving annual campaign, year-end giving campaign, and annual executive challenge campaign.

Specific position duties and responsibilities:
Annual Campaign:
  • Identify, recruit, and work with campaign leadership to create timeline, theme(s), and goals.
  • Strategize the ongoing recruitment and year-long stewardship of annual campaign volunteers.
  • Work with Volunteer & Marketing Manager (VMM) to build campaign site, collateral, and fundraising tools.
  • Schedule and host volunteer training and organizing campaign-related events, hosted by Haven House.
  • Manage third-party events held during the Annual Campaign (Law Firm Challenge, Driving Hope, etc.).
  • Create and distribute volunteer updates to encourage and support fundraisers in reaching fundraising goals.
  • Plan campaign wrap-up events and volunteer recognition.
  • Work alongside Donor Relations Manager to acknowledge campaign supporters through the donor’s journey.
  • Track and evaluate campaign performance, using data to refine recruitment and fundraising strategies.
Year-End Giving & Direct Mail Appeals:
  • Create the vision, framework, timeline, and strategies necessary to grow year-end giving.
  • Work with staff to identify impact stories for appeals and with VMM to write and design direct mail pieces.
  • Work with VMM to create digital appeals and posts to support campaigns.
  • Plan list segmentation and create differentiated messaging for identified segments.
  • Identify ways to engage lapsed donors during the campaign, and throughout the year.
  • Work with Board and RD team to recruit at least 24 executives to participate in Executive Challenge.
  • Work with VMM to build challenge site, collateral, and templates to help executives reach fundraising goals.
  • Work with Donor Relations Manager to provide engagement and recognition opportunities for executives.
  • Gather feedback post-challenge to identify ways to improve challenge and process in future years.
Individual Giving:
  • Supporting prospecting of new supporters, and solicit contributions from individuals at all donor levels.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with individual donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Work effectively with RD team to gain strong participation in annual giving, build strategies for moving donors to higher giving levels, and to cultivate donors for gifts to specific campaigns.
  • Coordinate donor stewardship and engagement with Donor Relations Manager.
  • Work with RD Team to implement strategies to meet annual new donor and donor retention goals.
Corporate Giving:
  • Identify corporate sponsorship prospects and work with Chief Development Officer to solicit new and existing sponsors for events, campaigns, and mission support.
Events and Outreach:
  • Represents agency at public presentations, third-party fundraisers, corporate giving presentations, and other events as needed.
  • Organize Quarterly Impact Lunches to highlight agency’s three main focus areas, and strategize other events that can support donor cultivation.
  • Supports RD team in execution of annual fundraising events.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 3-5 years of relevant experience in fundraising with a nonprofit organization.

  • Completes all required trainings.

  • Displays sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics

Other requirements:
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
  • Personal vehicle in the event agency vehicles are not available.
  • Proof of current/valid car insurance.
  • Acceptable background report.
  • Hybrid work model. Minimum 3 days/week at Haven House facility, with ability to work from home the other days. Schedule must be discussed and approved by supervisor.*
  • Culture of care and wellness in the office.
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to bloodborne and/or airborne pathogens.
