Job description

Referment is working with a consumer fintech platform serving people who need access to short-term finance. It is hiring a Director of Analytics to shape how data supports decisions across the business, from product and growth to finance and operations.

You’ll own the analytics strategy and its delivery, combining team leadership with hands‑on technical work. The remit runs from defining meaningful metrics and reliable data models to explaining findings to senior leaders and making reporting easier for non‑technical colleagues to use.

A central part of the role is building trust in the data: consistent definitions, a well‑managed semantic layer and self‑service reporting that teams can rely on. You’ll also apply generative AI and conversational analytics where they solve practical problems, rather than treating them as separate experiments.

The Role
  • Define and deliver an analytics roadmap aligned with business goals and executive decision‑making.
  • Work with Product, Engineering, Growth, Finance and Operations to turn business questions into analyses and clear recommendations.
  • Oversee SQL and dbt data models and the Looker semantic layer, keeping metrics accurate and consistent across reporting.
  • Introduce AI‑powered analytics tools that improve access to data and reduce the time needed to answer business questions.
  • Manage and mentor the analytics team, providing technical guidance, setting priorities and supporting professional development.
  • Balance longer‑term infrastructure and strategy work with high‑priority ad hoc analysis.
What We’re Looking For
  • At least seven years in analytics, business intelligence or data science, including a demonstrated record of leading teams and analytics initiatives.
  • Advanced SQL and Python, with strong experience in dbt‑based data modelling and Looker.
  • Practical experience applying generative AI or LLMs to real BI or data problems.
  • The ability to communicate findings to non‑technical stakeholders and influence decisions through clear business narratives.
  • Strong project management and prioritisation skills across strategic delivery and immediate analytical needs.
  • A quantitative degree or equivalent professional experience.
Useful Background

Fintech, startup or highly regulated industry experience is preferred. A postgraduate qualification is useful rather than essential.

This could suit an analytics leader who still enjoys the technical work and wants responsibility for both the quality of the reporting foundation and the decisions made from it.
