Hillel International
Hillel International seeks a Director of AI Strategy & Enablement to lead a movement-wide effort to build lasting AI capability across the Hillel professional network. Reporting to the Senior Director, Organizational Learning, this leader will turn emerging technology into practical, mission-aligned work - working with Hillel's Technology Services department as its primary internal partner. The Director will work in close partnership with a cross-departmental team to help spot opportunities, redesign workflows, develop best practices and ethical guidelines, and build the organization's skills to use AI well.
This is not a help-desk role. Rather than fielding technical requests from a central seat, the Director equips every team to do its best work with AI and builds the distributed capacity for that work to sustain itself. The role calls for strong facilitation and change-management prowess, the range to move fluidly between organizational strategy and hands-on implementation, and the ability to guide a complex, multi-site organization toward confident, responsible AI use.
The initial focus is service to Hillel International's Schusterman International Center (SIC), with consultation and resource sharing across campus Hillels anticipated in year two. This position is fully remote for eligible candidates based in the U.S. This is a two-year position; continuation beyond the initial term will depend on demonstrated impact and sustained funding.
Partner with Hillel's Organizational Learning team to unlock greater value from existing data, research, and evaluation infrastructure.
Use AI to connect information across student engagement, program outcomes, campus performance, development, and operations - surfacing patterns and identifying what most reliably drives strong Hillels and meaningful student outcomes.
Build the organization's capacity to ask large, consequential questions of its data and act on the answers, aligning people, funding, and strategy accordingly.
Provide vision, governance, and direction-setting for AI adoption across Hillel International and the broader movement.
Serve as an embedded consultant to teams through a concierge model - facilitating opportunity identification, workflow redesign, and best-practice development.
Partner with each team's designated AI enablement lead, transferring capability so teams can sustain and extend their own AI practice.
Build the peer-to-peer network through which successful approaches are shared, refined, and adopted across the organization.
Establish clear, practical principles for responsible AI use - spanning data privacy and quality, bias and accuracy, transparency, and the environmental footprint of these tools - and help staff weigh those considerations in their work.
Engage staff skepticism directly, treating ethical and values-based hesitation as legitimate, and champion a philosophy of AI as an amplifier of expertise and creativity rather than a replacement for it.
Guide selection and rollout of enterprise-grade AI platforms, secure access, and the technology ecosystem required for secure, effective adoption.
Establish standards that protect data integrity and organizational quality while keeping tools practical and genuinely useful to staff.
Coordinate operational implementation, integration, and support.
Develop and oversee an enablement strategy spanning staff training, embedded consultation, peer learning, and hands-on implementation support.
Build AI training modules into Hillel's existing professional development programs.
Equip staff not only to use AI tools, but to identify opportunities, solve problems, and apply AI in ways that advance organizational goals and student outcomes.
Build honest discussion of AI's limitations, risks, and trade-offs into enablement, so staff adopt these tools with awareness rather than uncritical enthusiasm.
We're looking for a builder, collaborator, and enabler - someone who is genuinely fluent in AI, energized by teaching others, and comfortable being the person who defines this work rather than inheriting a playbook. You do not need to be a software engineer. You need to understand what today's AI tools can and can't do, and how to help people use them well.
