Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC seeks a Director of Engineering to lead AI-native product teams delivering scalable enterprise software for IT services. You will guide architecture, ensure reliability, and mentor engineers to achieve long-term success.

The role requires deep distributed-systems expertise, hands-on leadership, and collaboration with Product, Security, and Operations to realize customer value at scale.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of related engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading and managing engineering teams.
• Strong experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of system design for scale, reliability, observability.
• Strong technical depth in Java, Python, or similar languages.
• Proven ability to define technical direction and influence architecture.
• Demonstrated success hiring, developing, and retaining engineers and leaders.
• Ability to lead through formal authority and technical credibility.
• Experience with AI-powered products, automation platforms, or agentic workflows is strongly preferred.
• Experience with enterprise service management, IT operations, CMDB, discovery, or AIOps is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow engineering teams within ITSM/ITOM products, partnering with product and engineering leaders.
• Own technical strategy and delivery; set architectural direction and ensure quality and reliability.
• Hire, coach, and develop engineers, tech leads, and managers with durable ownership.
• Drive evidence-based decision-making: formulate hypotheses, run experiments, measure outcomes.
• Lead evolution toward AI-native capabilities and translate recommendations into staffed work.
• Identify and address value realization gaps; diagnose root causes and implement improvements.
• Establish architecture patterns, engineering standards, and operating rhythms.
• Collaborate with ITSM/ITOM teams to share learnings and accelerate adoption.
• Coordinate with Product, Design, Security, Operations, Sales, and Customer Success on roadmap and release readiness.
