Job summary

WHYY's WPSU in State College, PA seeks a strategic Director of Advancement to build and lead a comprehensive fundraising program across major gifts, planned giving, grants, membership, and sponsorship, expanding donor relationships in Northern and Central Pennsylvania.

This leadership role, based in State College, will recruit a new advancement team, set annual goals, align with WHYY's institutional strategy, and ensure sustainable funding for journalism and educational programming.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
7–10 years of progressive fundraising experience.
Experience in major gifts, grants, and memberships.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors across Northern and Central Pennsylvania.
Manage a personal portfolio of major and mid-level donors with capacity for significant philanthropy.
Lead a new advancement team, including recruitment, coaching, and performance management.
Build infrastructure and systems for comprehensive fundraising (donor data, reporting, and stewardship).
Collaborate with WHYY advancement leadership to align priorities with regional and organizational goals.
