Job summary

This onsite, full-time position requires taking ownership of day-to-day accounting, ensuring accurate financial statements, supporting annual reporting, improving internal controls, and guiding a growing accounting team while implementing new automation

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience in an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience in a small to midsize organization is a plus.
• Public accounting experience is also welcome.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, AP/AR, and month-end processes.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Maintain and oversee the company's accounting systems and processes.
• Review and improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Monitor collections, payments, and cash activity.
• Work closely with leadership and external accounting partners.
• Support annual reporting and other financial compliance requirements.
• Assist with the implementation and optimization of new accounting technology and automation.
• Provide guidance and oversight to other members of the accounting team.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and organization within the accounting function.

A privately held Nashville-area organization is seeking a Director of Accounting to oversee its accounting function and play a key role in strengthening processes, reporting, and financial operations.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, smaller-company environment and is comfortable taking ownership of the accounting function.
