We are partnering with a growing business in Austin, Texas, to identify a Director of Accounting to lead and scale its accounting function. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader and strategic business partner to strengthen processes, enhance financial reporting, and build a team that can support the company's continued growth.

The ideal candidate brings a strong technical accounting foundation, a process-oriented mindset, and the ability to operate in a dynamic environment. This individual will play a key role in developing the accounting infrastructure, implementing best practices, and building out the team as the business continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Accounting Leadership: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Financial Reporting: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure the timely preparation of accurate financial statements.
• Process Improvement: Evaluate existing accounting processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement scalable procedures and internal controls.
• Team Development: Build, lead, and develop the accounting team, establishing clear responsibilities, improving workflows, and supporting professional growth.
• Technical Accounting: Oversee general ledger activities, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, accruals, and other complex accounting matters as applicable.
• Systems and Automation: Optimize accounting systems and technology to improve efficiency, reporting capabilities, and scalability.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with executive leadership and other departments to provide financial insights, support business decisions, and align accounting operations with company objectives.
• Audit and Compliance: Coordinate external audit and tax preparation activities while maintaining strong documentation and internal controls.
• Scalability: Establish the accounting infrastructure, policies, and procedures necessary to support continued organizational growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Significant progressive accounting experience, including leadership or management responsibilities.
• Experience overseeing the full accounting cycle and financial close process.
• Demonstrated ability to improve processes, strengthen controls, and implement scalable accounting practices.
• Experience building, mentoring, or developing an accounting team.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to thrive in a growing, evolving business environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working for privately held, high-growth, or scaling companies.
• CPA certification.
• Experience with NetSuite or similar modern ERP systems.
• Experience building or transforming an accounting function during a period of organizational growth.
• A track record of successfully implementing process improvements, automation, and scalable financial reporting practices.
