Job description

Summary:

The Director of Nursing for Pediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, and Pediatric Intensive Care at Westchester Medical Center oversees daily operations, supervising nursing and patient care staff within these specialized areas. The role involves administrative management, policy implementation, staff development, quality improvement, and participation in hospital committees. The Director recommends clinical practices and administrative changes, and in the absence of the Sr. Director, assumes full responsibility for these service lines.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Supervising and coordinating nursing and patient care services within assigned areas.
  2. Evaluating clinical practices and establishing institutional standards in collaboration with professional standards.
  3. Setting qualifications and overseeing staff development and education programs.
  4. Participating in staff evaluations, labor-management negotiations, and quality improvement activities.
  5. Assisting in budget development and participating in hospital and medical board committees.

Education and Experience:

Must possess a valid New York State Registered Nurse license, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and six years of pediatric nursing experience, including three years in a supervisory role. A Master's degree in Nursing or related field can substitute for up to four years of experience, at a rate of 30 credits per year.

Other Requirements:

Education must be from an accredited post-secondary institution. Candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of nursing techniques, administration, labor practices, the Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards, and possess strong leadership, communication, and computer skills. Physical condition must be adequate for the demands of the role.
