Job summary

Holtec is seeking a Director of Nuclear Operations to provide strategic and operational leadership for plant operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant performance across the facility. You will oversee the Operations Department, staffing, scheduling, and regulatory adherence while driving continuous improvement and safety culture with plant leadership and external stakeholders.

The role requires a Senior Reactor Operator license (SRO), extensive nuclear experience, and strong leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
• Minimum of eight years of power plant experience.
• Minimum of three years of nuclear power plant experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of Operations Department activities to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
• Ensure staffing, shift coverage, and scheduling to meet operational requirements during all phases of plant operation.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise operational, administrative, and technical activities within the Operations organization.
• Serve as the duty Operations Manager on-call as required.
• Maintain knowledge of plant licenses, technical specs, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
• Interface with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders regarding station operations and performance.
• Lead improvements to operational methods, procedures, and processes to enhance plant performance and efficiency.

The Director of Nuclear Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for plant operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the facility. This role is responsible for overseeing Operations Department staffing, scheduling, performance, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness while maintaining alignment with plant operating licenses, technical specifications, and company objectives. Working closely with plant leadership, regulatory organizations, and industry stakeholders, the Director of Operations drives operational excellence, nuclear safety, and continuous improvement across all aspects of plant operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and oversight of Operations Department activities to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
• Ensure adequate staffing, shift coverage, and scheduling to meet operational requirements during all phases of plant operation.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise operational, administrative, and technical activities within the Operations organization.
• Serve as the duty Operations Manager on-call as required.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of plant operating licenses, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements to ensure continued compliance.
• Review proposed plant changes and operational recommendations to evaluate potential operational impacts.
• Terminate any plant activity that could jeopardize personnel safety, nuclear safety, or reliable plant operation.
• Interface with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and external stakeholders regarding station operations and performance.
• Recommend and implement improvements to operational methods, procedures, and processes to enhance plant performance and efficiency.
• Lead and support initiatives designed to improve operational excellence, regulatory performance, and organizational effectiveness.
• Undertake projects, assignments, and special initiatives that support continuous improvement of plant operations.
• Support Operations Department staffing, scheduling, and workforce planning efforts.
• Assist with employee development, coaching, and annual performance evaluations.
• Foster a strong safety culture and promote high standards of accountability, professionalism, and operational excellence.
• Support preparation, administration, and monitoring of the Operations Department budget.
• Review budget performance and provide periodic updates regarding department expenditures and resource needs.
• Participate in fleet and shared resource programs as required.
• Serve as a member of station committees including the Operations Safety Review Committee (OSRC), Management Review Committee (MRC), Technical Oversight Committee (TOC), and Technical Review Group (TRG).
• Provide operational expertise and recommendations to support plant decision-making and governance processes.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another scientific discipline associated with power plant operations required.
• Minimum of eight (8) years of power plant experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years of nuclear power plant experience.
• Up to two (2) years of the remaining required experience may be satisfied through applicable academic or technical training on a one-for-one basis.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience within a nuclear operations environment preferred.
• Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) License required.
• Must meet or exceed ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978 requirements applicable to Operations Manager positions.
• Must satisfy all station and regulatory requirements necessary to maintain qualifications for the position.
• Strong knowledge of nuclear plant operations, technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities in a highly regulated operating environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage plant personnel, leadership teams, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
• Ability to lead through changing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance, and operational performance.
