Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in California is seeking a senior scientist to own all aspects of research and test development, validation activities, and staff education across laboratory subspecialties, and to align work with new tests and techniques as laboratory standards evolve.

The role drives multiple work streams, develops procedures, maintains training standards, ensures compliance and accreditation, and coordinates cross-functional teams to improve lab operations, quality, and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry or related field with 6+ years in a directly related field.
• 5+ years of leadership experience in a healthcare-related setting.
• Licensing requirements: California Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Geneticist/Microbiologist/ Cytogeneticist licenses or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams, provide feedback, mentor staff, and foster open dialogue.
• Translate strategy into actionable requirements; plan resources and remove obstacles.
• Develop training materials; ensure staff competency meets standards.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and accreditation; manage inspections and licenses.
• Coordinate lab services with other departments; align with standards regionally and nationally.
• Improve operations, promote new testing methods, manage inventory and projects.
