Job summary

STACK INFRASTRUCTURE is seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering in Denver to drive campus-scale design and energy-efficient data centers. You will oversee contract documents, ensure on-time, on-budget delivery, and guide engineering teams across operations and systems for multi-phase projects.

The role requires 10+ years in data-center design, expertise in IT cooling, and a preference for PE registration. Domestic travel and work eligibility in the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred (Mechanical).
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in data center design and HVAC equipment specs.
  • Experience in IT cooling technologies and data-center layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee project contract documents prepared by design consultants.
  • Ensure designs meet schedules and budgets.
  • Provide engineering guidance on projects, ops and systems.
  • Develop equipment specifications for OFCI equipment.
  • Support procurement through submittals and testing.
  • Maintain and update legacy basis of design documents.
  • Assist in new basis of designs for future needs.
  • Identify and implement energy/cost efficiency improvements.
  • Communicate engineering policies and standards.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies in data-center design.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Position

The Director, Mechanical Engineering will support innovation initiatives, support campus master planning, and provide support to the Vice President, Architecture for a multi‑phase, campus‑scale construction project ensuring that cost‑effective and energy‑efficient data center facilities are developed to meet the current and future needs of the company.

  • Oversee the preparation and final approval of project contract documents produced by third‑party design consultants.
  • Ensure that project designs are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Supply engineering expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems within the company’s existing facilities.
  • Develop and maintain equipment specifications for owner‑furnished and contractor‑installed (OFCI) equipment and systems.
  • Support the procurement of owner‑furnished and contractor‑installed equipment and systems through vendor submittal reviews, approvals and factory witness testing.
  • Maintain and update the legacy basis of design documents.
  • Assist in development of new basis of designs for emerging business needs.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement new technologies and systems to maximize energy and cost efficiency of the company’s data centers.
  • Communicate and implement engineering and design policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and design related to the organization’s industry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
The Details
  • Location: Denver, CO preferred; alternate STACK data center locations considered.
  • Travel: Some domestic travel required, estimated 25–33%.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must pass comprehensive background screening.
Must‑have Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred (Mechanical).
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design of data centers and specification of HVAC equipment for mission‑critical facilities to be considered for a Director level position.
  • Candidates with 5–7 years’ experience in design of data centers can apply but will be considered for a Manager level position.
  • Expertise in IT cooling technologies, both air and direct‑to‑chip liquid.
  • Understanding of mechanical cooling system control.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Baseline proficiency of AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat.
Compensation Range

$209,456.00 – $234,578.00
