Job summary

STACK Infrastructure in Denver, CO is seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead HVAC design for mission-critical data centers. You will oversee contract documents, guide design teams, and ensure projects meet schedule and budget while maximizing energy efficiency.

Candidates should have a PE, a mechanical engineering degree, 10+ years in data-center HVAC, and experience with IT cooling technologies and system controls. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design of data centers and specification of HVAC equipment for mission critical facilities.
  • Experience with IT cooling technologies (air and direct-to-chip liquid).
  • Understanding of mechanical cooling system control.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation and final approval of project contract documents produced by third party design consultants.
  • Ensure project designs are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Provide engineering expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems.
  • Develop and maintain equipment specifications for OFCI equipment and systems.
  • Assist in development of new basis of designs for emerging business needs.
  • Identify and implement new technologies to maximize energy and cost efficiency.
  • Communicate engineering policies and standards to ensure effective operations.

Data runs on STACK.THE POSITION:The Director, Mechanical Engineering will support innovation initiatives, support campus master planning, and provide support to the Vice President, Architecture for a multi-phase, campus-scale construction project ensuring that cost-effective and energy efficient data center facilities are developed to meet the current and future needs of the company. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Oversee the preparation and final approval of project contract documents produced by third party design consultants.Ensure that project designs are completed on schedule and within budget.Supply engineering expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems within the company’s existing facilities.Develop and maintain equipment specifications for owner furnished and contractor installed (OFCI) equipment and systems.Support the procurement of owner furnished and contractor installed equipment and systems through vendor submittal reviews, approvals and factory witness testing.Maintain and updates the legacy basis of design documents.Assist in development of new basis of designs for emerging business needs.Identify, recommend, and implement new technologies and systems to maximize energy and cost efficiency of the company’s data centers.Communicate and implement engineering and design policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and design trends related to the organizations industry.Perform other duties as assigned.THE DETAILS:Location: Denver, CO preferred; Alternate STACK data center locations consideredTravel: Some domestic travel required, estimated 25-33%Must be eligible to work in the United StatesMust pass comprehensive background screeningMUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONSProfessional Engineer (PE) Registration is Preferred (Mechanical)Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experienceMinimum of 10 years’ experience in the design of data centers and specification of HVAC equipment for mission critical facilities to be considered for Director level position.Candidates with 5-7 years’ experience in design of data centers can apply but will be considered for a Manager level position.Expertise in IT cooling technologies, both air and direct to chip liquidUnderstanding of mechanical cooling system controlProficient in MS Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPointBaseline proficiency of AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Adobe AcrobatCompensation Range:$209,456.00 - $234,578.00THIS MIGHT BE RIGHT FOR YOU IF:You are a strong communicator, you are persuasive and clear, blending analytics with experience in decision-making.You do not get flustered easily.
