Job description

Position Overview

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington brings people, resources, and ideas together to strengthen Jewish life across our region. Strategic marketing helps connect people with Federation's mission, opportunities, and impact—inspiring them to participate, give, advocate, and deepen their relationship with our community.

The Director, Marketing Strategy leads Federation's marketing function, shaping how we reach, engage, and move audiences to action. This role leads integrated marketing strategy, audience engagement, digital marketing, media relations, and marketing performance—connecting organizational priorities with the audiences, channels, and approaches most likely to advance them.

Woking closely with the Chief Communications Officer, Director of Communications, and colleagues across Federation, the Director translates organizational priorities into focused marketing strategies, personally leads priority initiatives, and helps the team continuously improve how we understand and engage audiences.

This is an opportunity for an experienced marketing leader who enjoys both big picture thinking and making things happen. You'll lead strategy for Federation's most important marketing efforts, use data and audience insights to improve our approach, develop a talented team, experiment with new ideas, and help build a more sophisticated, integrated marketing capacity across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Lead Integrated Marketing Strategy
  • Lead the strategy and planning of integrated marketing campaigns across Federation
  • Personally lead Federation's highest-priority and most complex marketing initiatives from strategy through implementation
  • Define campaign objectives, audiences, channels, sequencing, engagement, and conversion strategies
  • Develop audience strategies that connect people with relevant opportunities and move them toward deeper engagement with Federation
  • Translate organizational priorities into focused, actionable marketing plans and ensure they are carried through effectively
  • Guide integrated execution across email, website, social media, digital marketing, media relations, and other channels, stepping directly into priority initiatives where needed
Strengthen Audience Strategy, Measurement & Innovation
  • Use campaign, channel, audience, and CRM data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement
  • Advance audience segmentation and constituent journey strategies that help Federation reach and engage people more effectively
  • Establish KPIs and measurement approaches, translating performance insights into recommendations about where Federation should focus and invest
  • Test and evaluate new channels, technologies, and marketing approaches, bringing relevant outside practices and ideas into Federation
Advance Marketing Excellence Across Federation
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on marketing, audience engagement, campaign planning, and channel strategy
  • Partner with the Director of Communications to integrate messaging, storytelling, and creative strategy with audience, channel, distribution, and engagement strategy
  • Partner with Financial Resource Development, program teams, and colleagues across Federation to develop marketing approaches aligned with fundraising, engagement, and organizational priorities
  • Strengthen the tools, systems, and practices that support integrated, effective marketing across Federation
Lead & Develop the Team
  • Supervise, coach, and develop marketing, media, and digital team members
  • Set priorities and align team capacity and resources with Federation's highest-priority opportunities
  • Create clarity around priorities, responsibilities, and expectations so the team can operate proactively and effectively
  • Anticipate and address competing priorities, capacity constraints, and bottlenecks
  • Foster a collaborative culture grounded in strong judgment, accountability, curiosity, experimentation, and continuous improvement
Success Looks Like
  • Federation's marketing is strategic, audience-centered, integrated, and focused on meaningful outcomes
  • Priority campaigns move effectively from strategy through implementation and inspire people to participate, give, advocate, and engage
  • Federation increasingly understands which audiences it is reaching, what moves them to engage, which marketing investments are working, and where to focus next
  • Marketing channels work together as part of an integrated strategy rather than operating independently
  • Audience insights, experimentation, and performance data routinely inform decisions and improve results over time
  • The Marketing team operates proactively and collaboratively, with clear priorities, strong judgment, and effective coordination
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in marketing, integrated campaigns, digital marketing, audience engagement, or a related field
  • Demonstrated success developing and leading integrated, multi-channel marketing strategies and campaigns
  • Strong working knowledge of audience strategy, digital engagement, email, social media, web, public relations, paid marketing, and campaign performance
  • Experience using analytics, audience insights, and performance data to inform marketing decisions and improve results
  • Experience with audience segmentation, CRM or marketing technology, and data-informed customer or constituent engagement strategies
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, prioritization, planning, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building abilities
  • Experience leading and developing teams and working effectively across multiple stakeholders and priorities
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, decisiveness, curiosity, and the ability to bring clarity and structure to complex, fast-moving environments
  • Experience in nonprofit, fundraising, higher education, healthcare, or another mission-driven organization preferred
  • Familiarity with Jewish customs, traditions, and community life, or a willingness to learn, is preferred
  • Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Greater Washington (DC, MD, and Northern VA) region. This is a hybrid position, with 3 days a week required in our headquarters
