Job description

This role is hybrid based out of Scottsdale AZ or Charlotte NC.

Responsibilities

The Director, M&A Origination (“Director”) will report to CMH (Community Management Holding Company) Chief Acquisition Officer (“CAO”) and work on a five-person M&A team, including an experienced Associate and two Vice Presidents. The Director will be responsible for:

  • Origination of high-quality potential partnerships
  • Leading M&A marketing initiatives
  • Building a differentiated strategy that stands out in the industry
  • Developing a persistent outreach through multiple modalities
  • Ensuring CMH has the best competitive intel and database in the industry
  • Deploying a data-centric approach to outreach and pipeline management

This is not a plug-and-play role – we are building something special in the HOA industry. We have a strong culture and operate with a spirit of entrepreneurship and teamwork by serving the CMH team members, potential partners, and one another.

Travel will vary as necessary to ensure success.

Origination
  • Build strategy that combines email, in-person, and direct phone outreach
  • Leverage and build upon database of existing proprietary information
  • Lead initial conversations, effectively communicating why we’re different
  • Maintain a professional, affable demeanor with business owners facing one of the toughest decisions they’ll face
  • Build relationships with industry bankers and other “finders” to broaden the CMH brand presence across the country
  • Leverage our third-party technologies for outreach and pipeline management
Marketing
  • Develop messaging that grows CMH's reputation as the “partner of choice” for management companies
  • Lead content development that broadens CMH's digital footprint
  • Maintain a continual presence on key social media outlets (e.g., LinkedIn)
  • Proactively develop and update M&A marketing collateral
  • Work with our Chief Marketing Officer to ensure consistent messaging across community clients and prospective acquisition partners
  • Schedule opportunities for Ventura leadership, including trade shows, geography “road shows,” podcasts, etc.
  • “Own” database of proprietary industry intelligence
  • Capture, log and update all information during outreach
  • Utilize reporting and dashboards to capture outreach activity
Requirements
  • 10+ years of professional experience with a focus on business development, especially in investment banking, private equity or other areas of M&A
  • Proficient at Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional communication and “soft skills”
  • Professional, affable demeanor with a “hunter mentality”
  • Self-motivated with energy to support continual outreach and pipeline development
  • “Get it done mentality” and ability to self-manage
Physical Requirements

The physical requirements can vary, but generally, they may include:

  • Lifting: Ability to lift and carry materials (e.g., laptop, documents, trade show materials) up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Mobility: Ability to move within an office setting, including walking short distances, attending internal meetings, and navigating workspaces. Occasional mobility required during travel (airports, hotels, event venues, client offices).
  • Working conditions: Primarily performed onsite or hybrid. Periodic travel to conferences, partner sites, and internal meetings, sometimes across varying schedules and time zones.
  • Personal protective gear: N/A
  • Extended Sitting or Standing: Capability to sit or stand for extended periods during meetings or events
  • Manual Dexterity: Skills in using technology, including computers and mobile devices
  • Driving: Occasional driving for local meetings, regional travel, and events. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle when travel is required.
