Job summary

GEODIS in the United States seeks a Director of Litigation and Employment to lead employment law counsel, compliance, and litigation strategy across the company.

You will advise executives, manage outside counsel, handle regulatory matters, and oversee labor relations, focusing on risk mitigation, policy development, and proactive labor strategies.

Qualifications

• 5 years of legal experience with expertise in litigation (employment & labor)
• J.D. required; active bar membership in good standing in at least one state; Tennessee bar admission if not held may be considered

Responsibilities

• Provide counsel on employment laws company-wide (ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, OFCCP, WARN Act, NLRA, ERISA) and related issues.
• Litigation management: assess and respond to EEOC/state/local charges; quantify risk; draft pleadings and settlements; direct outside counsel.
• Develop and implement labor and employment litigation strategies and processes; resolve or prosecute litigation per company strategy.
• Oversee labor relations, including NLRB matters; advise executives and employees across business units.
• Provide direction to Law Department staff on employment, labor, ethics, or privacy projects; train on risk mitigation and policy updates.
• KPI tracking and reporting on litigation spend and outcomes; review outside counsel invoices for compliance with guidelines

Your role on the team: (job description)

• Employment Law Counsel & Compliance
• Provide counsel on employment laws Company-wide (including subsidiaries), including, ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, OFCCP, WARN Act, NLRA, and ERISA, and issues such as benefits, immigration, labor unions, severance, releases, non-competition agreements, background checks, drug testing, etc.
• Examine current Company employment and labor practices and keep abreast of changes in law and trends.
• Advises on regulatory and compliance matters.
• Litigation Management & Strategy
• Assess and respond to EEOC, state, and local agency employment-related charges.
• Assess and quantify risk for employment and commercial litigation.
• Draft pleadings, responses, correspondence, and settlement agreements in employment and commercial litigation
• Direct outside counsel and manage employment litigation, commercial litigation, and labor arbitrations.
• Develop and implement legal strategies and processes for employment and commercial litigation, and other legal matters.
• Resolve or prosecute litigation efficiently and effectively, in alignment with executive leaders and company strategy.
• Performs pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
• Labor Relations
• Advise and handle traditional labor matters, including labor arbitrations, NLRB litigation, and legal advice relating to labor campaigns
• Business Partnership & Advisory
• Advises executives within the Company and works alongside employees in all business units.
• Effectively communicates legal risks with executive staff.
• Provide direction and support to Law Department staff assisting on employment, labor, ethics, or privacy projects.
• Training, Process & Program Management
• Develop and deliver labor, employment, risk mitigation, and privacy training and updates.
• Identify and implement policy and process improvements
• KPI tracking and reporting relating to litigation spend and outcomes.
• Review and approve outside counsel invoices for efficiency and compliance with company guidelines.

What you need: (requirements)

• 5 years of legal experience with expertise in litigation (particularly employment and labor relations)
• J.D. required; active bar membership in good standing in at least one state. Tennessee bar admission required if not already held — reciprocity process can be considered.
