Trane Technologies is seeking a Senior Portfolio Leader to own a $1.5B light commercial unitary P&L, guiding multi-year growth and cross-functional alignment across channels and markets.
The role drives product strategy, resource allocation, and MGPP/MGTP development, delivering market-leading equipment and connected service solutions with a focus on customer lifecycle excellence.
Portfolio Leadership & Strategy Own the $1.5 Billion Light Commercial Unitary portfolio P&L across channels and markets, establishing and executing ambitious multi-year growth strategies for all unitary equipment product lines and associated lifecycle services to drive dramatic growth.
Lead strategic collaboration with Trane Residential and Trane Supply business units to align product architectures, leverage supply chain scale, and serve customers seamlessly across multiple distribution channels.
Serve customers across diverse channels—including Trane Commercial direct sales offices, independent wholesale distributors, Trane Supply store networks, and national commercial accounts—tailoring product offerings and service delivery to unique channel requirements.
Guide product line teams in investment prioritization, resource allocation, and development of multi-generational product and technology plans (MGPP/MGTP) using disciplined portfolio and innovation management tools to deliver market-leading unitary equipment and service solutions.
Leverage customer insights, competitive intelligence, and market data to drive differentiated, high-efficiency products (including rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, and connected controls) and elevate customer lifecycle experience.
Partner across the enterprise with Operations, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Customer Experience to achieve sustainability commitments, regulatory and refrigerant compliance, and optimal commercial execution.
Strategic Program & Project Delivery Plan, direct, and coordinate a high-impact portfolio of new product development (NPD), capacity expansion, and service innovation projects from inception through commercial launch, ensuring strict adherence to project scope, timeline, quality, and budget.
Oversee program and project managers—providing coaching, strategic support, and executive escalation for critical deliverables and cross-business unit initiatives.
Ensure best-in-class adherence to company project management methodology, tools, and governance routines (e.g., stage-gate development, program structuring, resourcing, risk mitigation, and business benefit realization).
Develop, socialize, and communicate comprehensive portfolio roadmaps, project milestones, and growth progress with executive leadership and cross-business unit stakeholders.
Team Leadership & Talent Development Lead, mentor, and inspire a geographically dispersed team of 3-5+ Product Managers and functional support resources across the Light Commercial Unitary portfolio, fostering talent acquisition, employee development, engagement, and retention.
Onboard and coach team members in strategic product management, commercial acumen, and customer-centric innovation, building a high-performance, collaborative, and inclusive culture.
Align team members around a shared growth vision, cultivate a winning mindset, and facilitate productive, cross-business unit collaboration at senior leadership levels within Trane Commercial, Residential, and Supply.
Process Excellence & Innovation Champion continuous process improvement through Lean Six Sigma, Agile, or PMP approaches to accelerate innovation speed-to-market for unitary equipment and digital/connected service solutions.
Manage and implement program changes, value engineering (VAVE), and strategic interventions to ensure business objectives, margin targets, and customer benefits are fully realized.
Drive consensus among key stakeholders across Trane Commercial, Trane Residential, and Trane Supply, resolve channel conflicts constructively, and dynamically adapt strategies based on market feedback and customer needs.
Experience & Education Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Engineering, or related technical discipline; MBA or advanced degree highly desired. Minimum 8–10+ years of progressive experience in product management, portfolio leadership, or marketing with direct responsibility for new product development (NPD), lifecycle management, and complex commercial deployments.
Proven track record of managing a substantial commercial portfolio or P&L (experience leading or scaling a portfolio towards the $1.5 Billion level highly advantageous), with demonstrated success driving dramatic revenue and market share growth.
Demonstrated success collaborating across matrixed business units and multi-channel go-to-market environments (e.g., commercial direct sales, independent wholesale distribution, supply stores, and contractor networks).
Deep knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, light commercial unitary systems, or adjacent engineered industrial equipment and lifecycle services.
Demonstrated success leading, developing, and inspiring teams in high-performance, growth-oriented environments.
Strong business and financial acumen, with proven experience partnering with Operations, Engineering, Sales, Supply Chain, and executive leadership.
Skills & Certifications Exceptional strategic vision, executive presence, and written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong analytical, financial, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities in dynamic, multi-channel markets.
Proven ability to influence without formal authority, build cross-business unit consensus (including between commercial, residential, and supply distribution networks), and resolve conflicts quickly.
Demonstrated ability to drive customer-focused product and service innovation that translates into competitive differentiation and profitable growth.
PMP Certification, Agile experience, and/or Lean Six Sigma tools/techniques strongly preferred.
Servant leadership mindset with a dedicated track record of talent development, diversity, and coaching. Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
