Job summary

City of Seattle seeks an innovative, equity-driven Director to head the License & Tax Administration Division within the Office of City Finance. This executive role leads policy, audit, and modernization of tax systems while advancing racial equity and public accountability.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration with City legal and legislative offices. Hybrid work with in-office days and competitive pay range is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5–10 years relevant experience with Washington tax preferred.
• 5–10 years supervisory or leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for City License & Tax Administration, including policy setting, execution, and performance monitoring.
• Develop and execute taxpayer outreach and education strategies; represent LTA in forums.
• Lead taxpayer compliance strategies and operations including discovery, audit, delinquency management.
• Oversee taxpayer and licensee account management; improve filing processes and training materials.
• Guide modernization of tax systems and collaboration with City Attorney’s Office on tax policy and litigation.
• Collaborate with state bodies to manage the Municipal B&O tax ordinance implementations.
• Manage strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, and operations for the division with emphasis on fairness and equity.
