Summary of the Job:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Partnership Legal & Risk, the First Line Legal & Business Risk Manager will oversee non-credit risk governance, strategy, and performance. They will provide legal and regulatory advice to the Credit Division, Customer Operations, and Enterprise Data Management within the Partnership Division, playing a key role in risk strategy implementation and cross-functional process optimization. The role requires strong knowledge of business policies, procedures, and regulatory obligations, ensuring operations stay within enterprise risk tolerance.

About This Role:

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements across the Credit Division and related business units.
  • Develop frameworks for managing risk and regulation within risk appetite parameters.
  • Maintain accountability for legal, regulatory, and compliance obligations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with risk functions and lead a team of legal and risk professionals.

Day-to-Day Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on consumer and regulatory matters, developing and implementing solutions.
  • Analyze issues, conduct research, and assess legal risks associated with business activities.
  • Draft and review customer agreements and disclosures, providing legal guidance.
  • Serve as the primary contact for compliance activities and coordinate with risk management resources.
  • Identify, assess, and document risks, ensuring they align with risk management policies.
  • Approve initiatives within risk appetite and ensure proper risk mitigation before implementation.
  • Report risk management activities to senior management and risk functions.

Legal:

  • Ensure legal compliance of business operations.
  • Draft and review customer contracts and disclosures.
  • Interpret state laws related to collections, fraud, and customer contracts.
  • Utilize available legal risk services and adhere to risk policies.

Risk Framework Development:

  • Create and implement risk management frameworks aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Integrate risk management into daily operations and decision-making.
  • Lead delivery of risk governance, identifying gaps and ensuring consistency across teams.

Procedures and Risk Assessments:

  • Develop risk management procedures reflecting industry best practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify and prioritize risks.
  • Design risk controls for activities during ideation and production phases.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Provide insights on risk performance and impacts of regulatory changes.

Innovation / Efficiency:

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within a complex risk environment.
  • Optimize processes, technology, and personnel to reduce expenses and meet customer needs.

The Ideal Candidate for This Role:

Required qualifications:

Juris Doctorate with 7-10 years of experience in legal, compliance, audit, or risk management within financial services. Leadership experience and deep knowledge of risk principles, operational strategies, and regulatory requirements are essential. Proven success in process improvement and innovative operational solutions. Strong relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and influence skills. Familiarity with bank policies, laws, and regulations, including BSA/AML and FINRA/SEC standards.

Compensation:

Range from $95,857 to $162,957, with starting pay determined based on experience and skills. Final offers may vary.
