Job summary

Clean Harbors, Inc. is seeking a Director, Labor Relations to oversee all aspects of labor relations, including bargaining, policy development, and training. You will collaborate with HR and legal teams to manage resolutions, disputes, and labor-law compliance.

The role involves building strong relationships with union leadership, managing contract negotiations, and driving strategies to maintain a fair workplace. 50%+ travel is required, with a focus on effective labor relations across sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Labor Relations/HR/related field is required.
• 10+ years of Labor Relations experience.
• Excellent negotiation skills and ability to influence others.
• Ability to research, identify relevant information, and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Exceptional analytical abilities and adept in MS Excel.
• Strong execution abilities that drive results.
• Knowledge of national, state/provincial and local statutes/regulations in HR functions.
• Experience with labor relations and employment law; familiarity with administrative agencies and courts.
• Travel 50%+.

Responsibilities

• Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies and acting safely.
• Collaborates with site management on handling labor relations issues; researches, evaluates and mediates labor issues; recommends actions.
• Builds relationships with union leadership, supervisors, line managers, business unit leaders and HR/Labor staff.
• Communicates and ensures understanding of labor laws, regulations and policies to managers and employees.
• Sits first chair in contract negotiations for all labor contracts.
• Prepares and conducts labor relations training programs and union awareness plans.
• Participates in boots-on-the-ground coordination of union campaign response.
• Conducts needs assessment, develops training curriculum and conducts sessions for managers.
• Monitors and reports highlights of labor relations trends, developments and events.
