REPORTS TO: VP OF SALES | TEAM: TWO DIRECT REPORTS

The Opportunity

Polysciences' Laboratory Products business is much more than a catalog. It is a broad portfolio of specialized, off-the-shelf scientific products used by researchers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, diagnostics developers, clinical laboratories, and other technical customers. Products are purchased in research quantities and, as customer needs grow, in bulk.

We are seeking a hands-on technical sales and commercial leader to own the strategy, revenue growth, and P&L performance of this business. The Director will lead an aggressive three-year growth plan centered on distributors, strategic and new direct accounts, product commercialization, and application-led demand generation.

This is a working director role. You will lead two direct reports focused on technical service and product development, and distributor management and quotations. You will also personally develop accounts, evaluate opportunities, guide commercial decisions, and drive execution. This is not a position for someone who expects to lead primarily through delegation.

What You Will Own
  • Full P&L performance for the Laboratory Products business, including revenue, gross margin, pricing, product mix, spending, and profitability.
  • The commercial strategy and execution plan for strategic accounts, new direct customers, distributors, and profitable business development.
  • Catalog expansion and portfolio decisions, including which products to develop, add, reposition, or discontinue.
  • Commercial direction for technical product development, pricing, positioning, launch readiness, and adoption.
  • Growth priorities for application campaigns, website improvements, SEO, technical content, and measurable digital demand generation; Marketing leads execution.
How You Will Grow the Business
DISTRIBUTOR GROWTH AND OPTIMIZATION
  • Prioritize distributor opportunities based on customer reach, technical fit, catalog gaps, growth potential, and economics.
  • Expand profitable product placement with existing distributors and add qualified partners, using margin, adoption, and post‑launch results to guide decisions.
STRATEGIC ACCOUNTS AND NEW DIRECT CUSTOMERS
  • Personally establish and develop a focused portfolio of high‑value strategic accounts and new direct customers.
  • Pursue cross‑sell, adjacent‑application, bulk, and other commercial opportunities; as sales grow, build the capacity needed for ongoing account ownership.
NEW‑PRODUCT COMMERCIALIZATION AND PORTFOLIO EXPANSION
  • Set commercially grounded development priorities and direct the technical product‑development pipeline based on market need, differentiation, feasibility, margin, and customer fit.
  • Balance differentiated make/develop launches with complementary buy/resell additions from affiliated companies and external suppliers; Purchasing leads supplier negotiations.
MARKET DEVELOPMENT AND MEASURABLE DEMAND GENERATION
  • Set application‑and workflow‑based commercial priorities for the Marketing Director and team.
  • Use customer, distributor, website, quote, and sales data to identify opportunities and measure campaigns by qualified demand, adoption, attributable sales, and gross profit.
The Technical Background We Value

Our products are not commodities, and our customers expect scientific credibility. You should bring subject‑matter expertise in at least one of the following areas and be able to translate that expertise into commercial judgment, customer value, and growth:

  • Particles, microspheres, beads, or functionalized surfaces, including polymeric, latex, magnetic, fluorescent, diagnostic, calibration, or related particle technologies.
  • Diagnostics and life‑science reagents, including immunoassays, clinical diagnostics, bioseparation, affinity products, conjugation or coupling chemistries, chromatography, or similar application‑driven products.
  • Specialty polymers, biomaterials, or technical laboratory chemicals, including polymers, monomers, PEGs, hydrogels, biomedical materials, specialty reagents, or related portfolios.
  • Histology, cytology, or pathology products, including stains, fixatives, processing reagents, microscopy‑related products, clinical‑laboratory consumables, or related workflows.

Particle and microsphere expertise is especially valuable, but it is not the only path to success. What matters is deep knowledge in a relevant technical area and a demonstrated ability to use that knowledge to grow a scientific‑products business.

Required Qualifications
  • Eight or more years of progressive experience with technically complex scientific, laboratory, diagnostic, biomaterial, polymer, or specialty chemical products.
  • Demonstrated technical sales success personally developing customers and growing profitable revenue—not solely supporting a sales organization.
  • Experience managing a product‑line, portfolio, or business‑unit P&L, including pricing, margins, product mix, spending, and profitability.
  • Experience developing strategic accounts, new direct customers, and distributor or channel‑partner growth.
  • Demonstrated success commercializing new products and using customer and market insight to direct portfolio priorities.
  • Experience leading employees and cross‑functional initiatives while remaining personally engaged in critical commercial work.
  • Experience using CRM, financial, product, customer, and digital‑performance data to manage pipelines, establish priorities, and measure results.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Subject‑matter expertise in particle or microsphere technologies.
  • An advanced scientific degree and/or MBA is strongly preferred.
  • Direct people‑management experience in a small or resource‑conscious organization.
  • Experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM and scientific e‑commerce or digital demand generation.
What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you will be expected to:

  • Establish clear commercial priorities, operating rhythms, and measures for revenue, gross profit, account growth, product adoption, and qualified demand.
  • Build and personally advance a prioritized strategic‑account and new‑customer pipeline.
  • Accelerate profitable distributor placement and implement disciplined pricing, margin, and quote‑follow‑up practices.
  • Create a commercially focused product‑development and portfolio‑expansion pipeline.
  • Build a team culture of technical excellence, customer engagement, commercial urgency, ownership, and follow‑through.
Why Polysciences

This is an opportunity to lead a meaningful scientific‑products business with an established customer base, a broad technical portfolio, internal manufacturing and development capabilities, and significant room for focused growth. You will have the authority to make consequential business decisions and the visibility to see your work translate into new products, stronger customer relationships, and profitable sales.

Compensation includes a strong base salary plus performance‑based incentive compensation. This position is based in Warrington, Pennsylvania, and is expected to be on‑site when not traveling. Limited hybrid flexibility may be considered for an exceptional candidate; this is not a remote position.

Polysciences, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
