Job summary

Iambic Therapeutics seeks a Director, IP Counsel to lead our IP function at the San Diego headquarters. You will draft, prosecute, and manage a global patent portfolio for small molecules and AI-driven discovery, engaging outside counsel strategically and leveraging AI tools for efficiency.

The role requires hands-on patent work, strategic leadership, and the ability to translate scientific advances into robust IP protection in a fast-paced biotech environment.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active U.S. bar membership; USPTO registration.
• 8+ years of life sciences patent experience, in-house biotech/pharma preferred.
• Hands-on drafting and prosecution of small molecule patents; global portfolio strategy.

Responsibilities

• Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications; manage outside counsel.
• Lead global portfolio strategy across US, PCT, EP.
• Conduct freedom-to-operate, patentability, and landscape analyses.
• Build trade secret program for AI models and data.
• Lead IP due diligence and negotiate IP terms in collaborations.
• Incorporate AI tools for search, drafting, and analysis.
• Oversee publications, lifecycle, exclusivity, and disclosures.
