Job summary

Iambic Therapeutics in San Diego is seeking a Director, IP Counsel to lead our intellectual property function. You will draft, prosecute, and manage a global portfolio while steering FTO analyses and IP strategy for our AI-driven discovery platform.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in life sciences patent practice, a JD with US bar, USPTO registration, and a PhD in chemistry or related field. In-house biotech experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• J.D. with active U.S. bar membership and USPTO registration.
• Ph.D. in chemistry or related field preferred; AI/ML exposure a plus.
• 8+ years in life sciences patent practice; in-house biotech/pharma preferred.
• Hands-on drafting and prosecution of small molecule patents.
• Experience leading an in-house IP function and global strategy.
• FTO analyses and IP management in pharma collaborations.

Responsibilities

• Draft, file, prosecute patent applications; manage global portfolio (US, PCT, EP).
• Lead freedom-to-operate, patentability, and landscape analyses with outside counsel.
• Oversee invention disclosures with research teams; determine inventorship.
• Build and maintain trade secret programs for AI models and data.
• Negotiate IP terms in collaborations, licenses, and other deals.
• Set IP strategy and budgets; integrate AI tools for efficiency and policy alignment.
• Oversee publications, lifecycle, exclusivity, and IP-related disclosures.
