Job description

The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is seeking a Director, Investment Strategy within its subsidiary company, TruePlan Benefit and Retirement Advisors (TruePlan). TruePlan is an industry leader in employee benefits and retirement plan consulting. TruePlan delivers tangible business results to finance and human resource leaders, enabling them to enhance plan offerings while remaining competitive and reducing overall plan costs.

Reporting to the President of TruePlan, this position will be responsible for the execution of investment advisory services, encompassing due diligence, investment selection, and ongoing monitoring for a large book of defined contribution (DC) retirement plan clients (401k and 403b plans), and certain non-DC institutional clients. The position holder will also contribute to the business strategy and ensure clear, effective communication of investment advice and commentary to both internal team members and external clients and prospective clients.

While the incumbent will be expected to travel throughout NY and to our office in Rensselaer, NY on a regular basis, a remote working environment would be considered within New York State. The salary for this position is between $120,000 and $130,000 annually. Pay rate offered will be based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and in consideration of internal equity.

Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  1. Designs and implements a consistent process for comprehensive investment oversight, including fund selection/search, due diligence, and ongoing monitoring/reporting to clients and internally to TruePlan associates.
  2. Performs investment advisory services primarily for DC retirement plans and certain non-DC institutional clients including defined benefit plans (pension plans), corporate assets, and similar tax-exempt entities.
  3. Communicates and presents investment and capital market information to clients through written commentary and presentations, leveraging a variety of internal and external resources.
  4. Leads tracking and reporting of client investment lineups in Broadridge Fi360 and Orion systems.
  5. Assists TruePlan's sales group in new business procurement including proposal writing and sales presentations.
  6. Collaborates with the investment team to ensure high effectiveness in repeatable and defendable selection/monitoring processes for TruePlan clients.
  7. Serves as voting member of the TruePlan Investment Committee.
  8. Coordinates closely with the account management team to maximize client deliverables.
  9. Ensures compliance with client Investment Policy Statement criteria and initiates potential periodic updates.
  10. Ensures investment services team conformity with all standards outlined in the compliance manual.
  11. Leads the search, selection, and decision-making process concerning investments in the TruePlan Mutual Fund Program.
  12. Maintains cutting-edge knowledge of regulatory, industry trends, and investments.
  13. Researches and evaluates industry innovations to keep TruePlan at the forefront of the retirement advisory industry.
  14. Maintains licenses in a current and proper status through Continuing Education, seminars, and conferences, to meet FINRA and NYS Insurance Department requirements.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, or a related field is required; Master's preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  2. At least five years of related experience in delivering retirement and investment advisory services for institutions or individuals, including regulatory, industry, and investment knowledge.
  3. FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 or Series 65 licenses are required, as well as SIE.
  4. Existing or future interest in CAIA designation is a plus.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  6. Excellent relationship-building skills with internal and external clients.
  7. Must be detail-oriented with superior analytical, oral, and written communication skills, including exceptional presentation skills.
  8. Ability to present complex topics clearly and concisely.
  9. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory, industry trends, and investments.
  10. Willingness to travel within the assigned territory, typically several times per month.
