Job summary

Oliver James Group in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Director of Investment Accounting for a leading life and annuity carrier. You will oversee the portfolio accounting for fixed income, equities, real estate, private equity, and alternative investments, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with statutory and GAAP standards.

You will lead and mentor a team, coordinate audits with external auditors, and partner with actuarial, treasury, and investment management teams to optimize portfolio

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA/CFA preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in investment accounting, with life insurance or annuity carrier focus.
• Deep knowledge of SAP/GAAP/statutory accounting principles and investment accounting for multiple asset classes.
• Strong leadership experience and ability to mentor a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all aspects of investment accounting for the portfolio (fixed income, equities, real estate, private equity, and alternative investments).
• Manage preparation, review, and timely filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual investment accounting reports.
• Ensure compliance with SAP, GAAP, NAIC, and internal policies; collaborate across actuarial, treasury, and investment teams.
• Coordinate audits with external auditors and drive improvements to controls and systems.
• Provide leadership and training to the investment accounting team and monitor industry/regulatory changes.
